what kind of discount I could expect if I were able to book a Last-Minute Restricted Stateroom Discount?

I am currently interested in the may 20 cruise from l.a. to vancouver. a category 07a stateroom is currently priced at $1330 per adult (based on double occupancy). what would the rate be if disney offered a restricted stateroom discount?

also, is there any way to predict if this discount might be offered? i noticed that when i start to book the cruise that the first dining seating is full. perhaps that indicates that the cruise is quite full and igt/ogt/vgt will not be offered?

we can't really swing the current cruise prices (4 adults, 2 kids) plus airfare, so i am hoping for a discount.

the gt i think = guarantee.

this is not the same as guarantee status. it is instead a discount from disney that just includes the word "guarantee" but has nothing to do with guarantee status.

here is some more info on this lifted from another site:
Disney offers a way to save if you are flexible about your stateroom location and willing to book “last minute,” usually meaning 21-75 days prior to departure. The “Restricted Guarantee” room categories are offered on select sailings at the discretion of Disney Cruise Line. These categories may provide a great rate if you are flexible with your stateroom location, but as the name suggests, they are heavily restricted, with a lot of rules.

I don't think there is a special formula to know how much of a discount you will get IF they offer the restricted rates. Along the same lines no one knows if they will even offer it. If the cruise isn;t selling well then they may offer it sometime after PIF date.

There's really no way of knowing if (or for how much) DCL will offer *GT rates on a specific cruise. They appear on cruises that aren't selling well. If the cruise you're looking at seems to have not many rooms available, then they might not offer these rates.

The last minute restricted rates are offered on a type of room: IGT - Interior Guarantee; OGT - Oceanview Guarantee; VGT - Verandah Guarantee.

May 20th is a really close day for there not to be discounts. Getting really close to summer. DCL will charge what they think they can get for the rooms, so I won't predict. Main Dining being full is a sign that the ship is at leat half full, so don't count it as a loss.

If it was me, and I can't afford normal prices, I would be the computer every day at 8am to see. Also, you can watch the categies start to disappear due to bookings. That will be the sign the ship is filling up. Good luck and think pixie dust! Look for discounts starting 75 days out which should be in a week or so......

One non-scientific way of determining if a cruise has availability is to try to book 2 adults in various categories. If you put in for 2 adults, and every category comes up available, it's a pretty good possibility that *gt might come up, or some other discount like military, southern cal. Usually those come out after the PIF date, which should be coming up in 2 weeks.

Now one thing that happens once the discounts come out is that availability goes down (obviously) and the other rates go up. On the WBPC cruise, the discounts came out, most were gone within a week, and the rooms that were left skyrocketed in price. Even now that there appears to be more availability than there was in late Jan., the rates are still much higher than they were before the PIF date. So if you see something, act fast. Don't worry about which room, or if Cat. 7a is going to be listed, or that early dining isn't available!

what website would you be at every day at 8 am? do these *gt discounts show up on disney cruise lines' booking site? i didn't think that they did. i was planning on watching a disney travel agent's site which lists current discounts and is updated religously. is that the best way to watch for a *gt discount?

As others mentioned, it's hard to say and there really isn't a definitive answer - at least that I'm aware of! We travelled last August on a *GT rate for the 8/15 Dream sailing and paid about $1900 for all 3 of us.

If you look at some of the April sailings on the Dream, some of the regular rates are cheaper than the *GT rates offered on different sailings and it's likely due to the time of the month (cheaper versus more expensive). My point - just because it's a *GT rate does not mean it will be a cheaper cruise. Sounds like you are looking a specific sailing however. In our situation, yes the OGT rate we booked was cheaper than the other sailings and about $1100 cheaper than the Dream we had booked 14 months out (for our June sailing).

PIF is 75 days generally for cruises leaving from a U.S. port.

Regarding the capacity of this cruise, I wouldn't expect there to be *GT rates offered. The main reason is that this is the first cruise leaving from a west coast port in a while and there won't be any others until the PC returning to FL in the fall. In the past, there were KSF rates offered for the early Alaska cruises since they were during most school calendars. That was at a time when the MR cruises were offered though. Not having that option increases the number of cruisers who want to depart from a WC port -- even Vancouver -- while decreasing the number of cruises available. That usually means fewer rooms available and no discounts offered.

I have started a little spreadsheet to track the *GT prices, but I am only tracking the Caribbean and the Bahamas based on a family of 2A & 2C.

I have a percentage that calculates the *GT price against the categories available and those prices. I know you may be assigned a different category, but it helps with savings visual.

So far, on the ones I have, the savings is between 6% and 36% depending on where you are going and the cabin type.

This may be helpful in the future to some one traveling on the Dream or Fantasy. I know I was wondering what the dollar savings could be myself, but I couldn't find that answer on the boards.

Well right now I just go on the website and check the sailings that are less than 75 days out. (Yes, I know, I have too much time....but it helps break up my day!) I check once a day, it only takes about 5 minutes.

When the *GT sailings are available, they will be on the specific cruise they are being offered on and they show at the very top in red.

I am mainly keeping the spreadsheet for myself, but if the question comes up in the future, I will be able to look back and maybe give someone a better idea of the dollar savings.

The question I have with a *GT cabin is... If I book a *GT cabin, can I still transfer it to a TA? Since you have to pay for the *GT booking in full, I am thinking that you can't transfer your reservation once it is fully paid for. Am I correct in this understanding?

That savings percentage is based on the current rates. The opening day prices have been lower than any *GT rates that have been released. Combine the 10% discount to the opening day release from a dummy date that was moved, and it goes even lower. There were a couple DVC offers that were below the opening day release rate.

seems like that is good to know since ta give you on board credits. i would hate for the discount to vanish while i waited for my ta to call me back.....
