I am considering getting a DS lite for my DD but someone said I may want to check out the DS I...Anyone know the differences between them?

She is going to be 7.....

Thanks a million!

Have a magical WDW kind of day!

Valerie~

DS-I is multi-functional (i.e. it has a camera) and it has a memory card slot and it is bigger. DS Lite is simply a gaming system. DS Lite is supposed to eventually be phased out, but I think that's not for awhile.

DSi can take pictures, and is an MP3 player.

It's great because it removes the need to buy them a camera or iPOD. DS13 loves the manipulation you can do with your friends' pictures.

One more thing... It has a much better user interface, for example when we got it going with the Wifi it was much easier to do than with my daughter's DSlite.

DSi also has wireless internet. My DD10 *LOVES* this part, but I'm not sure how you feel about your 7 year old going online. However, my dd follows the same rules as when she's using the family computer, and she just wants to play Webkinz and Club Penguin anyway. She also loves manipulating the pictures and being able top listen to music with it. She would tell you the DSi is "way cooler." I would tell you it's "way more expensive" lol

i have a dslite, and i love it. i kindof just want my gameboy to be a gameboy, i have a camera, mp3 player and all of that stuff. (and the price difference was definitely a factor for me)

they play the same type of games, but a dsi can't play gba games (which was also a factor for me)

My ds6 and dd4 have the lite and my ds12 has the dsi.. I couldn't justify the money for my little ones since MY kids wouldn't use the features of the dsi.. Internet, camera, and mp3 player are the key features.. It all depends on if your dd would use those features or not. Plus with the dsi you can't use the older ds advanced game or the guitar hero game with. Good Luck on your decision..

I'm glad you posted this because my DD(11) wants one. She said she just wants the "regular" DS. I think we're going to get it for her birthday next month. Santa will probably bring one for DD(7) at Christmas.

Just to clarify: you can't use the older Gamboy games on DSi but you can the newer games?

Yes, no Gameboy Advance games (the square one), but it will play DS, DSlite, and DSi games.

GBC games are square. GBA games are rectangular. and DSi can't play anything but the small memory card shaped games. :)

Thank you for the clarification, I knew you all would be able to give me the info I needed. :) to make a educated decision. :)

Thank you!

I was talking about the game player itself being square, the Gameboy Advance. I guess I was unclear. :)
