Scattered are spread out over an area where isolated are confined to one area. An isolated storm means its raining at our house, but not at the pool that DSs lifeguards at. Scattered means the storms at scattered all over the area. Did that make any sense?

A meteorologist once said on the news that isolated showers generally mean 20% chance of rain, while scattered showers means an approximate 40% chance of rain. The two terms are kind of general and really refer to a percentage.

Here's the answer I found when I googled it. I love Google.
The National Weather Service has very specific definitions for the terms "scattered" and "isolated". These terms are used to describe the amount of area covered by thunderstorm activity. For example, forecasting isolated thunderstorms implies that less than 30 percent of the forecast area should experience a thunderstorm. If scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast, 30 percent to 50 percent of the forecast area should experience a thunderstorm.
