What is the deal with Kouzzina?

I never see anyone mention it. I made a ressie there for my DHS day. Now that we won't be seeing Fantasmic, we would like to spend an evening in the Boardwalk area (weather permitting of course!) and the menu looks way more appealing than the other Boardwalk options. I thought about Cape May Cafe, but my 6 year old is smell sensitive (HATES the smell of seafood) and I heard that it smells fishy.

EDIT: To clarify, I heard that Cape May Cafe smells fishy, not Kouzzina. ;)

I love Kouzzina, I've been there three times in the last year, and have enjoyed every meal, especially my last one, when I just made a meal out of a couple of appetizers.

DH & I ate at Kouzzina on our last trip and really liked it. I hate seafood and didn't notice a fish smell at the restaurant. The sampler dinner is fantastic!

Thanks all! I remember there was a lot of buzz about Kouzzina when I was planning my November 2009 trip, but I haven't really seen much mention of it. Thanks for linking the other threads - I guess reviews are mixed.

We'll still give it a try as we love Mediterranean foods and are adventurous eaters.

We three had an excellent dinner at Kouzzina last week. One had the lasagna, one had a sampler trio plate, and I had a fisherman's stew with a tomato-based broth that was out of this world. There were many choices available, and we did not notice a fishy smell to the restaurant.

We also had a superb meal at Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club. They have seafood, but also regular meat items.

Either restaurant would be well worth a try. :)

Weird--I've seen it mentioned on here quite a bit lately. Mostly good, but there seems to be a few people who have a strange grudge against Cat Cora. :confused3

BTW--my cousin and his wife ate there last month and LOVED it!

Reviews have been mixed, but don't let that deter you. In my unscientific observation, it seems most people who claim to enjoy Mediterranean cuisine enjoy Kouzzina. I read a lot of disappointed posts from folks who find the food too exotic for their tastes.

Again, that is not the case with everybody, but I have definitely noticed that trend.

It has never interested me personally. I see too many of her dishes have fennel in them. There are only literally about 2 or 3 things that I refuse to eat and fennel is one of them. so it is off limits to me. I can taste and smell that stuff form 100 miles out.

Kouzzina is our favorite restaurant at WDW. We ate there in August and I wish that we had gone back a second time. We are staying off property, without dining plan, next trip, and this is the one meal we know we will get a reservation and pay OOP for! That whole fish dinner is INSANELY good.

Our experience was a mixed bag. We are all adventurous eaters - we tried and liked an Afghan restaurant in DC, for example. I would not call Kouzzina's cuisine too exotic for us, at all. I am known for the pastitsio I make and looked forward to trying the pastitsio at Kouzzina - I thought it was awful- gummy and/or hard macaroni, big blob of bechamel sauce on the very bottom, just terrible. The cinnamon chicken, also not good. DS enjoyed the fisherman's stew, however. We all loved our desserts. That was our experience and I'm glad others have had positive ones. The fact I was disappointed in my food doesn't mean I just fell off the turnip truck...

For what it is worth, I loved it the last time we went and it was my first ADR this trip.

I think for people who are not used to that type of cuisine and the hustle/bustle/noise from a restaurant where the kitchen is open to the dining room, it turns them off.

We noticed a few people around us complaining about the noise level, but we loved it.

We had superb service and every dish was better than the next. I am looking forward to it again this year.

I haven't started my dining review of my last trip yet... keep meaning to! But we loved Kouzzina. We had late reservations at 9pm and we didn't have a problem with the noise, but that could be because there were a few empty tables when we sat down and many empty tables by the time we left.

We loved the food, my BFF who lives in NYC said it was the best authentic Greek food she has had and she goes to a number of Greek restaurants in the city. I'm nowhere near NYC and I wouldn't call myself an adventurous eater (and I hate fennel) but I loved my meal which was the Kouzzina trio.

I was disappointed with the desserts because I have a thing about nuts. I'm not allergic and I will eat nuts on their own, but I don't like them in my dessert. It seemed like every dessert had nuts in it. But I would go back again! And again and again! :goodvibes

We are very adventurous eaters; we do a lot of travel to unusual places and have no problems eating local cuisine.

We did not like Kouzzina at all. We were seated 40 minutes past our ADR and the place was so noisy. Our waiter was very nice but a bit slow. He recommended the lasagne, which I ordered, and it was served cold, as if it had been sitting for awhile. I didn't complain but I didn't eat it either (there was plenty of other food to eat). When he saw that I had not ate it, he did comp the entree and apologized that I had not liked his recommendation, which I thought was very nice of him.

The other food (there were 4 of us and we shared appetizers and entrees) was okay, not great. However, the food would have to be outstanding for me to wait that long and sit through such a noisy table service.

We ate at Kouzzinas in June. We don't eat meat but do eat fish. Our server was friendly enough when we sat down, but when he found out we did not want entrees, only appetizers, he suddenly abandoned us. It was very noisy and we did not particularly enjoy any of the four (small) dishes. We love mediterranean cuisine but this is not a restaurant we will be going to again.
We left disappointed and hungry.
