What is the COOLEST FEATURE in your house?

The inground sprinkler system. Never had or needed one in Massachusetts but down here it comes in handy. Plus, it's fun to play with. :teeth:

Hmmm...that's hard to answer, there are a few things.

I'd say one of the coolest is the hand held sprayer on the soaking tub--I can wash my hair in the tub, and it makes cleaning it soooo easy.

My husband would say it's the fan in our family room.

My walk-in closet :goodvibes It was even featured in our local newspaper. Here's a picture I took right after it was finished. Out of frame on the left are my shoes. Believe it or not, all the shelves and racks are full now :rolleyes1

The vaulted ceilings and my soon-to-be jaccuzzi in the garden.

We have a motor in the ceiling that lowers it to a height where you can clean it and change bulbs while standing on the floor of the foyer.

ohhh I wanted that but you have to have an attic - and we have all cathedral ceilings!!! no place to put the box :(

my coolest feature -
just one huh
I would have to say the heated walkway - no shoveling - woo-hooo it starts snowing flip the switch and it stays clear !

Hmmm..if you asked DS15, he would say that after 5 years of honest effort we have totally given up trying to grow grass in the back"yard". It is (again) nothing but dirt, so this past weekend he and a friend built a dirt jump and a berm for their bikes. The dog likes it, too.

I love our pool..... I know it's outside - well sort of, but it's still my favorite feature! To me it's an extension of the house with the lanai being screened in. Mos times in the "summer" months when we are using the pool the slider from the family room to the pool is open. We eat out there, I work out there. etc. It's nothing fancy - not extra features - it's was here when I bought the house - but I still LOVE it!

1) Underfloor heat for all tiled floors
2) 4'x11' Island in the kitchen
3) All Oak cabinets, built in Family room bookcases, floors, moldings and doors (expect one to garage which must be steel for safety)
4) Mickey Mouse entry hall closet doors
5) 2nd floor laundry with custom cabinets
6) 3 Zones of cooling and 5 zones of heating
7) Full bathroom off the garage entrance. No need to go to far to shower after outside work.
8) The house sits on 10 acres.

Can you tell I custom designed it? I was the architect and general contractor for our home. DH was one of my "workers". :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My father contracted the house so a neat feature is a light switch in the master bedroom that throws on spotlights on all four corners of the house (we live in the woods so this is great). We also have a neat sunroom with a Hot Springs hot tub we love (TV,DVD,VCR out there also). Finally a great shop that is a miniture version of the house; actually could be a small house. It is heated/AC with a phone, very handy! :goodvibes

Wow, I give CrazyJ the coolest award. That ceiling and the AB effects were AWESOME!

Coolest thing in our house? Hmmm.. probably the A/C or the Freezer. :teeth: :rolleyes1

Seriously though. The house we are in is from the late 60's so it's not full of new fangled gadgets yet not old enough to have some of the cooler old features.

We do have a cool stream that comes up from underground, runs through the back of our backyard and then dips back underground a couple of houses away before it empties out into a lake. It helps us get some pretty cool wildlife in our yard.

Probably our Sauna. It is just something different. We also have a walk-in attic which is a great place for the kids to play.

The storage!!!! Our new townhouse (we move next in month) was built in the 60's. The builder extended the bedroom closets aaaaalllll the way to the walls on both sides opening up an incredible amount of storage space in the wall. He installed shelving too so I can easily store a huge amount of stuff and it's very accessible. There's a large walk in pantry built in the space under the stairs that has electricity for a small chest freezer ( :cheer2: ) the closet with the water heater was set up with tons of shelves too. If there's a nook or cranny, it's got shelves and storage space built in. I can't wait to post pics next month when we get moved it. Wait till you see the patio!!!

I would have to say a large eat-in kitchen with an island (where I live with my laptop). Our last house had a teeny kitchen--what a difference a house makes. And the laundry room right off the kitchen. The laundry room is not big enough, but the location is great.

I also like the split staircase going upstairs. Stairs go from the foyer and another set from the kitchen, meeting after 6 steps in a landing and then continue upstairs. A lot the houses in this neighborhood have 2 staircases, which would have been cool, but this is the next best thing, and we didn't waste as much space on that whole second staircase.

The finished basement is good, too. Big playroom for the kids with electronic basketball, Little Tykes basketball (my 6yo still loves that) ping pong (can have either ping pong or elec b.ball folded down at a time, not both, it's not THAT big LOL) and a rec room with a kitchenette, foosball, tv. Great hangout for the teens.

I wanted to add one more thing for you to consider. My girlfriends parents have a gas feed on their patio for direct hook-up to the barbeque. They love it since they never have to mess with exchanging gas tanks. That's an option that you don't see every builder offering.

Our fireplace and the motion sensored water faucet in the kitchen. I was doubtful when my husband installed it, but now I don't think I could do without it.

My husband installed an intercom system that is in every room in the house(minus bathrooms)but including front porch and back porch. The main system is in the kitchen. Not only do I never have to yell for the kids to come downstairs to eat anymore, but the system has a built in stereo that will put music or whatever into each room that has an intercom. It's just great to not have to SCREAM anymore for the kids. Conversation at the push of a button. :)

Oh, how cool everyone's houses are!! The things I enjoy most are:

Remote control gas logs
Hand-held spray in tub and shower
Intercom system
Sound system - kitchen, sunroom, patio, master medroom and master bath all connected to one system

Except for the remote control gas logs, everything was done by the previous owners - thanks, guys!!!

When I finish my addition it will be new laundry room (!) and security system upgrade.
