Okay, I have to know, what is going on at the Contemporary. The wings are under construction and I heard they are building vacation villas. Is this true? Does anybody know what they are doing? :confused3

They are rehabbing the rooms with a new decor. I believe there are pictures over on the All Ears web site. They are also rehabbing the Tower rooms one floor at a time.

South Wing is being completely rehabbed, and looking quite nice I might add. Tower rooms are also being done, but on a floor by floor basis. North Wing...well, we have heard the DVC mutterings, but nothing concrete as of yet.

I checked out the pictures and love it, OH my Gosh it is beautiful. I am die-hard
POly and OLd Key WEst, but WOW!!

I have stayed in a wing room before, lagoon view and had a great time, May need to go again!!

I know someone who works there, and has confirmed that they're turning the south wing into DVC. While we were taking the boat from the Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom I could see what they were doing; they were totally gutting the rooms of the south wing. I should've taken pictures. lol They had sheets hanging over the balconies but some of them were pushed aside and we could see in. :3dglasses

The South Wing is getting the room rehab.

If the DVC rumor is true, it will be the North Wing and the exsisting building will be torn down. There would be no way they could make villas out of the exisiting building. Time will tell if the DVC rumor is true.

Ok then the person that works there that told me this, must be wrong. lol They work in concierge, so they maybe they don't have accurate info, but he seemed quite sure. I don't know, just going by what I was told. Sorry!

I just stayed in the South Wing in August and they were not converting them to DVC units. They were doing facelifts of the rooms, minor changes. Nothing at all like a DVC villa. Your contact is wrong.

Ok, just wait till I see him again! I'll choke him. lol He was very sure when I spoke to him last, a couple of weeks ago. I usually don't like to say anything unless I am sure. Sorry!

P.S. I did see with my own eyes though, the rooms they were working on in the south wing (in July), and they were gutted. I guess to do the remodeling of the rooms?

I find it very difficult to believe they would begin construction on a new DVC location before an announcement is made. If/when construction on a DVC north wing begins, we will know all about it.

Yes the rehab is pretty extensive so everything in there would be taken out.

If and when DVC does build they will have to start with a new building. There has been talk of a walkover connecting the DVC wing directly to the main area of the Contemporary, possibly on the monorail level.

As Erik stated there will not be any construction to a DVC resort prior to an announcement to the members.

Great info, thanks,

I hope they do turn part into DVC. That would be great. Who doesn't love monorail access and if they look like the removal they will be beautiful.

Thanks everybody. :wave2:

So they are going to be building a brand new building when they add DVC to the Contemporary? Or are you saying that a DVC location at the Contemporary is itself just a rumor right now? :confused3

I think I am sorry I even posted on here because I really have no interest in the Contemporary resort (except maybe to stay in the tower concierge at some point, possibly our trip next month if they don't finish the Polynesian concierge building on time) or in DVC, just wanted to add what I had been told. Sorry for putting in my 2 cents where it didn't belong. :) I thought my information source knew what he was talking about. :guilty:

Hey, Terry, don't feel bad. South or North, none of us really know. :confused3

There are usually threads going on the DVC board about CR rumors but since nothing has been announced, we really don't know. Most talk about the North wing and recently there have been rumors about razing the building and putting up a new 4 or 5 story building with that connection to the tower.

And if CR does have a DVC component, it could feasibly be just Inn rooms like those at Vero Beach. The South Wing could fit that description.

But almost all rumors are about the North wing. :cool1:

I don't think the contract would allow Inn rooms only would it? Vero has both. This would be a question for Dean. :flower:

You're right, that would be a question for Dean. :)

But since they would be new contracts, I don't see why not.

Personally, I'd rather see one and two bedrooms and even GVs. But I'm just speculating that anything is possible.

And I don't want Terry to think her rumor isn't as valid as anyone else's. There is an oxymoron for you.

Now THAT is funny! :earboy2: Thanks for the chuckle! :teeth:

Actually I was thinking the same thing, it's all rumor and speculation at this time. Only time will tell, and every CM has a different story. ;)

I just left CR yesterday and spoke to a nice lady at the front desk about this same subject. I was told that the north wing would be turned into DVC. I did not ask if they would be using the stucture that is already onsite or if they would tear down and rebuild. I was also told that they could not start on this until the south wing was done. Also was told that it takes about 2 weeks to refurbish 1/2 of a floor in the tower. As of yesterday they were about to reopen bayside floor #9. The rooms on the 10th were done and they looked GREAT!!! :flower:
