What is the better discount?

We are annual passholders and DVC members, my parents are also FL residents. We want to stay at a Moderate during October and are trying to figure out what the best way to do it would be. I also just updated my profile and added an itinerary (without room reservation) to the Disney website in hopes of receiving a pin.

Because we have been staying at DVC resorts for the past few years - I feel like I am out of the loop as far as other resort discounts go. What discount is usually the best?

You have to sit down and do the math for each type of discount you qualify for to see which one is the best bargain for you. Passholder and Fla Res discounts for October won't be out for a while yet. Recently, the percentage of discount between the two (and even including the general public discounts) has been pretty close, but the minimum stay requirements have been shorter for the passholder discounts, so they were better. However, the passholder discounts have also been the last to appear recently, so the "cheapest" room types are already gone. For example, when they posted the general public discounts for summer, I booked a standard view room at CR for four nights in July at a great rate. The passholder discounts for the same period came out about a week ago, and the only rooms left for my week were theme park tower rooms - which are significantly more expensive than the standard view wing rooms. Plus, the percentage was the same. So in this case, it was better for me to go ahead and book the GP discount than to wait for the passholder.

Basically, once you've done the math and found a rate you are comfortable with, book it. If a better code comes along, you can always try to modify your reservation. But if you wait, you may lose out on a good deal.
