What is the BEST type of sunscreen?

We always use 30-45. Just so it's waterproof and you reapply, you should be fine.
DD uses coppertone with sparkles...hey, whatever makes them wear it!

Bullfrog. Bullfrog. Bullfrog. (Did I mention I really like Bullfrog? :teeth: )

I am about as fair skinned as you get (some would say pasty), and we use the SPF 36 Spray Gel.

My DS has been at summer day camp ALL summer, swimming 2x a day, and has not been burned at all. I spray him down in the morning, and his counselors reapply it after lunch.

This stuff is the most 'waterproof' I have ever found.

They make a regular gel too, but we prefer the spray.

Hi, fellow Louisvillian! :)

Here's what not to use: Coppertone Sport Spray. The Coppertone Sport Lotion works great and is fairly water resistant, both sweat and pool water. And the lotion in the trigger bottle is fine. But the spray only covers the area where it is directly sprayed, even if you rub it onto other areas.

We learned this the hard way last Wednesday when we took a rest day and went to Clearwater Beach. We were red after 3 hours at the beach, except for these white polkadots where we'd sprayed. It was pretty funny to look at us, but we were all burned.

Hello to you fellow Louisvillan...... What part are you from?

How r you. And thaks everyone for you help!!!

We live in the Goose Creek area, off Westport Road. How 'bout you?

We're fine. Sad to be off vacation but otherwise fine. :)

Our detmatologist recommends Neutrogena SPF 55. I like it because it comes in a 3 oz. bottle, which can be put in a carry on and it's not greasy. It does work well.

As a general rule of thumb, lotions are better than sprays. Most of the spray ends up in the air. Lotion goes directly to your skin.

For the Fl. Sun? We are all light to fair skined and Burn easy. Please help!

Consumer Reports this year rated No-Ad spf 40 only as the best sunscreen with the widest protection. We used it all summer at the water parks and liked it.
I personally would go with Consumer Reports, not just what others like, because it is tested extensively and is non-biased:)

Tip: We have the children wear their rash guards, esp. in the water, but even out if they are going to be in the sun all day. They dry quick when wet from the rides at regular parks and they are comfy. Also, if you don't have one, you can buy Rit SunGuard that you put into your laundry load and it makes all your clothes spf 30 for about 25 washes. We always do that to our pants, shirts and hats and it make all the difference!

We used Coppertone Sport SPF 50 this past September and it worked great for both us. We are both fair skinned and didn't get burned at all. Another plus with the Spray is that when it's really hot out, the spray has a cooling effect. I would recommend taking some sun tan lotion with you for your face though.

We only use No Ad on our children. It works great and it does not cause the allergic reaction that Coppertone products give them.

We use the Baby Spf 45 one in the pink bottle. My middle son is very fair and we have never had a problem when we use No Ad on him. It is a lotion, which we prefer. They also have a stick which is great for ears, noses, etc.

I keep two bottles in the house all the time. Thankfully our local Outdoor store carries it in the winter months too!!

Have a great trip!!

Check ingredients for Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Avobenzone, or Mexoryl. SPF only measures protection against UVB rays, and sunscreens are only required to protect against UVB rays. Those four ingredients (there are others) also protect against UVA. Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide are physical blocks and are good for sensitive skin (kids). The other two are chemical blocks. Buy at least SPF 30 and reapply.

Actually, I used Coppertone Sport Spray (in the blue bottle) while at Typhoon Lagoon last month and it worked great! That stuff is like cement; it's truly waterproof. In fact, it's kind of hard to get off -- I had to scrub and scrub with a soapy washcloth. Just apply it thoroughly - I didn't have a problem with the "little white dots" that this poster mentioned. I did reapply every hour or two - didn't get red at all!

I only use Coppertone spray at the waterparks - for everyday use, I use Neutrogena spray sunscreen. It works great - a nice light feel, but works very well. Much nicer texture than Coppertone. I think all Neutrogena sunscreens are really good - I also like their "Dry Touch" lotion on my face. Great texture, non-greasy, works great.

We are a fair-skinned family (Irish & Swiss background  makes for very white skin  ) and the only sunscreen I've found that really works for us is Hawaiian Tropic Baby Faces 60+. We took it to Disney last year and it was the first time I didn't burn.....well except my scalp because I didn't wear a hat the first day :rotfl:
