I live in the UK, and will be going to Disneyland, however first i wil lbe staying in the Hollywood area.

What would you recommend as the best way to get from Hollywood to Disneyland.

Train
Metro
Town car
Supershuttle
Or
Hire car

If hire car what is the nearest drop off point near Disneyland? As I will not nead the car after Disneyland, or before Hollywood.

Many thanks

It's feasible to get there using the subway/train/bus - see my comments in http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=590613 but reverse the direction. However I'd say if you could find a tour bus in Hollywood that might be the most efficient and cost effective way to get to DL. As for renting a car - I wouldn't recommend it - the freeways involved (101/5) are usually congested and the freeway interchanges would probably be quite confusing to an out-of-towner (see http://members.cox.net/mkpl/interchange/interchange.html), and to make it worse, we drive on the "wrong" side of the road. ;)

Thank you for your reply, I will consider the options. Driving on the Americian side of the road is not a problem, done it in Florida for 15 years, but the congestion seems to be an issue.

QUESTION, how safe is it on the trains, if you are carrying suitcases and are clearly on holiday?

The trains (Amtrak and Metrolink) should be quite safe. I've ridden the MTA subway a couple of times and have never felt threatened although there you will see a broader cross-section of the population. They have transit cops roaming the cars checking for tickets, so I think that tends to prevent problems.

I used to ride Metrolink to and from college. The trains are nice and I've always felt safe. Since those are commuter trains, they do get crowded during peak times (between 6-9 am and 4-7 pm) so if you are riding during peak hours, you might find it difficult to find a place to sit where your luggage is nearby (there are no luggage cars). I think Amtrack going through the same area is also commuter heavy, but from what I remember (we sometimes had to use Amtrack if we missed a connecting Metrolink train) they're usually less crowded because of their higher ticket prices. Metrolink is a bit less expensive than Amtrack and even cheaper if you ride during non-peak hours.
