What Is The Best Food You Make From Scratch?

I do well with "back of the box" recipes
Macaroni and cheese (from the mullers box)
Green Chile Chicken Enchaladas (from old el paso green chile can)

I also have a simple recipe from my DH's grandma that everyone raves about and it is sooo simple. Scotcheroos (rice krispes, peanut butter, chocolate and butterscotch bars)

Spaghetti sauce.
Chili
mashed potatoes
chocolate chip cookies
brownies
Black forest Cherry cake
Fried rice

I'm not the best cook but I try. Off the top of my head I can fix mashed potatoes (yum) and sweedish meatballs with rice and gravy. I also do one mean dirt cake.

I would oove to learn how to bake and make more complicated dishes. I have made eclalirs from time to time that were pretty good too.

My family would say my specialties are
Baked Stuffed Lobster

I hope you don't mind, I am going to PM you and ask for this recipe...this sounds incredible! yummmm

My best from scratch recipe is a chicken stir fry...which has to have the lemon sauce marinade; cashews; water chestnuts; either peapods or asparagus, and any other veggies that I have around (carrots, celery, green onions etc)

- Beef n' Barley Soup

- Oysters Rockerfeller

- Ribs

- Chicken Wings

- Beef Wellington

red velvet cake

Sorry, this one made me go blech! My mil makes it and it smells just like play-doh. I tried it and it wasn't bad, I just can't get the play-doh out of my head.

Pumpkin Rolls
Stuffed Shells
Roast
Homemade Potato Filling
Pumpkin Chip Cookies

:) Come on over. Just make sure you bring over some pumpkin chip cookies and pumpkin rolls, those sound delicious! I love pumpkin. :thumbsup2 YUM!

My mom is a gourmet cook and I am always trying to match her! I like to cook, but don't LOVE it like she does, but I do enjoy it. I rarely use a recipe for anything but lately I have started writing down the "recipe" I used it a particular item came out really good.

My DH loves my
Homemade Mac and Cheese
Chicken Maderia
BBQ Ribs
Sausage and Peppers Rustica
Chicken Parm Subs.

To be honest, I can follow any recipe with sucess and I am getting a lot better at "making it up" or "winging it" and trying new ingredients. I even have cooked a lot for my DMIL and she loves my cooking.... :)

I am also pretty successful just throwing together items we like and making it up as I go along. When I am following a recipe, I usually follow it exactly (unless it has cheese, and then I usually double or triple the cheese ;) ). I have never really understood how some people can follow a recipe and still have it turn out badly. I'm just lucky, I guess. My most requested meal was always chicken enchiladas, but that was because I wouldn't share the recipe with anyone. My husband got tired of eating them everytime someone came to dinner (one time he said, "I think the mailman hasn't tried the enchiladas yet, you want to invite him in too?") so I finally gave the recipe out.

I've got a lot of my grandmother's and mother's old recipes, and those are always my favorites.

Top 5 stuff: Tortierre
Any kind of quiche
Chocolate chip cookies
White chocolate cheesecake
Cranberry sauce

DH would always add crabmeat and cheese dip, but it's never been my favorite.

let's see...

1. "almost pizza" it's a crustless pizza (ground round serves as crust)
2. strawberry pie
3. lemon icebox pie

i'm no gourmet cook, but i cook the things my family likes really well :)

Let me preface this by saying that I am a good cook. Not gourmet, but most of the basic foods I prepare are very good. People do not leave my table hungry! That said, the one thing I can count on everytime are my homemade biscuits. I use a recipe from the Company's Coming Casserole cookbook, and they are delicious! (The secret to good biscuits is to kneed the dough only 10-12 times, they will be hard if you work the dough too much).

Other specialties are Scalloped Potatoes (from the same cookbook), beef stew, and pot roast. What's your specialty?

The one thing I wish I could make is homemade biscuits! I have tried lots of recipes and also watched them made on different Food Network shows and tried to make them. Nothing works! They always taste terrible and don't even look like something you would want to eat! :confused3

I just had my favorite meal and the one that I can make really well, Toad in the Hole! It is pork sausage baked in a popovers. I made it because my hubby hates it but he is out watching the superbowl so me and DS7 ate it! Yummyyyy!!!

Ok, you guys are making me HUNGRY!!

Who's willing to post their recipes? I'm always looking to add new recipes to what I make...mix things up a bit!!!

meatloaf
beef stew
pot roast
spaghetti sauce and meatballs
pignoli cookies
lemon bar cookies

When my sons come home from college they always request the meat loaf and pot roast. One son takes back to his apartment tons of spaghetti sauce(frozen) and other son takes back beef stew (frozen) to hid dorm.
