What is the Best Book you've ever read?

To Kill a Mockingbird is my hands down favorite. I love a book that can make me laugh AND make me cry.

Several have mentioned Stephen King's The Stand...while it's not my favorite, it's a book that has stuck with me for years--still can't drive through a tunnel without thinking about it!

My all time favorite: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See.
Hard to pick just one, but this book really spoke to me.

Another one I think about a lot is The Glass Castle by Jeanette Wells.

The Stand, Harry Potter, and the Golden Compass series.

I loved The Stand, Snow Flower, and The Glass Castle! I also loved The Lovely Bones, The Red Tent, and just read some really good ones, The Help, and Still Alice. I read about 2 books a month, so it's really hard to pick.

Tough one, and I've been noting some that I should check out thanks to others' responses, but 2 that really affected me that I didn't see noted...

Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven

I also really loved the Kingdom Keepers books too:thumbsup2

Most fun/engrossing - The Lord of the Rings
Biggest effect on my personality - Les Miserables
Biggest effect on my philosophy - Free to Choose

I continue to find books that I love, but the impact is lessened by having more life experience. The three books listed above captured me more thoroughly because I was younger and had less exposure to other books and ideas.

This is a childrens book but it was my sons favorite and I feel like it still gives an imporrtant message
We cried everytime we read it

The Giving Tree

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It's a classic tale of vengeance... and so well written.

A Time To Kill
Needful Things
Left Behind Series
I love Danielle Steele
In school it was The Cantebury Tales.

I don't read alot...but some that stand out to me
Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta
Twilight (yeah, I know , but I loved it!)
Many Waters by Madeline L'Engle

My absolute favorite is East of Eden by Steinbeck.

I love books! So hard to pick one, or even to pick a few, but I'll try:

Jane Eyre (Bronte)
Sula (Morrison)
Pride and Prejudice (Austen)
The English Patient (Ondaatje)
Heart of Darkness (Conrad)
And Then There Were None (Christie)
Anything by George Eliot.

If I HAD to pick
one favorite, it would be Middlemarch. I re-read it every year and, sometimes, twice in a year.

So many...but one that stands out in my head now (probably because I just finished it) Firefly Lane.

My top 3 (and probably how I'd rank them if someone MADE me):

To Kill A Mockingbird
She's Come Undone
The Shack

Others that I love and reread: The Stand, Lonesome Dove, Good In Bed, Insomnia, City of Ember Series, Pride and Prejudice, Sookie Stackhouse and Rachel Morgan series

Best book? The Bible, hands down. I've read it through more than once, memorized many passages, and I try to live my life by the principals contained within it. Definitely the most influencial book I've ever read.

But I think I had a strong emotional/mental response to both Roots and To Kill a Mocking Bird. Other literary works have influenced me also but I just remember my intese feelings regarding both of those books. Of course I read both of them at a young age (roots at 12yrs old, to kill a mocking bird at 14yrs) so that might be why they imprinted on me so deeply.

Another one who says choosing books is like choosing a favorite child but I as many times as I read them I could read them a million more..The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Love love love them :) I laugh out loud and cry and disappear completely into their world

Ditto!:thumbsup2
