What is the advantage of a package?

I have booked room only with AAA in the past and then purchased tix at my local AAA office. If I were to book a package, am I basically only saving on the room or will I see a savings on the tix as well? Any additional savings with a regular package? I'm not sure I see any advantages to a package (especially since it needs to all be pre-paid) unless they were to give you some Disney Dollars, the dining plan, or some other additional discount. I don't care about something like a luggage tag or a ticket to the Sports Complex.

If I book room only, I can change my AAA ressie to a package if they offer something great (like the dining plan), right? If I book a package, can I change it if a better package is offered (and available)?

If I book just the room, buy discount tix through AAA and then show up and purchase the dining plan at check-in, they can put my tickets and everything on my resort card, right?

Sorry to start another AAA/package thread, but it's so hard to find all these details without reading 100 posts on 20 different threads!

You can't add the dining plan within 48 hours, so the greatest advantage to a package is the dining plan option. I believe that when you are booking through AAA with a package, you are getting the same price as you would by booking room and tickets separately, but I've never booked through AAA, so I'm not sure. I know that is the case with a WDW package reservation.

Also, often times if you are booking airfare there are more flexible and/or cheaper options for those on a package reservation as opposed to room only.

You can insure a package reservation but not room only.

You do receive a luggage tag, as you mentioned as well.

For some, it's better to pay for the entire vacation up front, and that is also an advantage to them...although you have that option with room only and tickets as well..unless the room was booked on the internet. Some people like to have everything paid well in advance and by that time they are so used to saving for the vacation that for the 45 remaining days they are saving for spending money.
