What is standard for car/limo companies?

It sounds like lots of you have experience. Can anyone tell me if this is standard:

I called to make a town car reservation. They took my information, including CC info, which they said would not be charged until 1-7 days before our trip. I had asked if we would be able to make a grocery stop and they said they would get back to me through e-mail to let me know if we could make a stop at a grocery store.

I received an e-mail requesting that I fax them my signature to authorize the charges, but no answer on the grocery store. I don't have a fax machine at home and I haven't had to fax any of my other reservations back, even ressies that require a deposit. Grocery stop question aside is this normal? Can't they just charge my card when we are closer to our travel date? :moped:

Personally, I wouldn't do it, nor would I use a CC for payment, or pay in advance, but thats me.

I just looked at FL tours Website. They do not require CC to hold a reservation. It doesn't appear that they require advance payment. So I guess to answer your question, there isn't a real standard.

What company? I would cancel things. This does not sound right. I have never given my credit card i advance, and then they ask for a signature faxed. Wrong!!!

I also agree with the other posters. We have used towncars on both sides of our Disney trips and NEVER has anyone asked for credit card information ahead of time. On our trip from home to the airport the driver will take our credit card info and signature when we arrive at the airport. On the Disney side the driver does this when you arrive at your resort.
Suggest you cancel with them and keep reading these boards for towncar services that people have been happy with.

Thanks, it didn't feel right, but I haven't booked this myself before and wasn't sure what was normally done.

Adding: This was with Happy Limo, when I called to book, it sounded like the person was fielding dispatch calls while they took my information. I wasn't comfortable then, so I will feel better if I just cancel and find a company that I do feel confident with.

I've never been asked for a credit card in advance. I'd be leery of giving that info.

We always use Fla Tours and pay the driver when he picks us up at the airport. I would never fax my signature anywhere!!! :confused3
