I friend of mine just got back from a cruise to Mexico and in her email she said she had the most awesome seafood ceviche. Please can anyone describe it and give me the proper pronounciation?

Basically it's a cold seafood dish/appertizer kind of thing. The seafood is 'cooked' but not by heat. It's marinated in a lime juice mixture and there's a chemical process that happens that 'cooks' the seafool. I had it once at a fancy restaurant and it was wonderful!

I think it is pronounced sir-Vee-chay.

According to Dictionary.com:

Raw fish marinated in lime or lemon juice with olive oil and spices and served as an appetizer.

Pronunciation roughly se-vee-chay

You eat it like salsa with chips or tortillas. I have found it to be one of those foods that if it is good...it is really, really good but if it is bad......EEEWWWHHH!!

My aunt is from Peru and makes this all the time. I have never had it though - I guess I have been kinda scared to try it. Others in my family says its great!!

LisaZoe, thanks very much for posting the link!

I knew that there was a website with pronunciations, but thought it was dictionary.com - how could I have forgotten it was Meriam-Webster! Ack!

No problem. I use this site a lot myself. It's so much easier than a hard copy dictionary because you don't have to have the correct spelling to be able to get a chance of finding the word you want. Ah, the wonders of technology... :)
