Pin Karma...
Lacking the poetic eloquoence of yon middle child, Mermie, I have to put it thusly...
Ahem...
Pin trading is a means to an end for many traders. The very concept of trading means that one decides what
to give up in offer for what one may receive. It is natural for one to weigh the trade, metaphorically speaking,
so as to give up little for much. It's the way of the barter - I am WILLING to offer this if you would be WILLING
to offer that.

In the pin trading game, since collecting is also a factor, an additional element comes into play - elusiveness
of the target (rarity). When your target is in abundant supply, you'll neither need to offer, nor seek "deeply"
for your reward... and vice versa.
That said...
Some people are so engrossed in the outcome that they fail to understand the journey - they simply focus on
the pin, and not the person. If you're not careful, it's easy to do. But it's not Karma.
But if you are fortunate, you will find folk who would like to see YOU do well. They know what you are going
through, and while it may not be in their best interest PIN-WISE, they will help you. These people will make a
mark upon your soul. They will stop and allow someone - maybe you - maybe your child - to sidetrack them on
their way to make a trade. Often, that elusive, "those folks are leaving tonight and this is the only chance we'll have"
trade, because it's just what they should do. You'll say "Can I see your pins? I don't have much..." and they
will abandon their quest for that 'Holy Grail' pin that they were seeking. They will say "Um... OK."
You'll notice them looking at the trade that got away, then they'll turn to you, devoting their full attention, and
say "What are you interested in?" You're embarking upon a journey that will leave you beholding, unknowingly,
to the pin trading community. As you learn more about pins, you'll come to realize that someone, that fateful
night, traded you a rare, limited edition pin for a lanyard pin that you had for trade, just because you were new.
You'll come to understand that this was something special that someone did just for you.

And you'll pass it along.
Oh, and that pin trader you made that original trade with? It's OK. A few nights later, they found that pin they
were after. It came a LOT cheaper that it would have made it that night.
We call it Pin Karma.
