What is on your summer goals list? Did you do any of it yet?

Duluth for 12 days? LUCKY! Duluth is in my top 5 places I have been...nothing like it! We had planned on going this last weekend, but ended up knocking one of MY summer-goals off the list and visiting a new state - went to the UP :)

OP -

1) new state - since I did not get to WY when we were in the Black Hills last month, I "forced" DH to go to the UP last Friday. It is only 2 hours from our cabin. Went to a beach there, on Superior, then to Ironwood for some cookies :) Quick and easy foray over the border, but it's done!

2) go back to school. I have applied/been accepted. Now my anxiety about it all (time management, money, etc.) is kicking in and I am dragging my feet...

3) get youngest DS out of the house more. That hasn't happened yet. He has a job interview on Wednesday, however, so that will hopefully help...
My husband has wanted to go to Duluth for years, he is a big boat nerd. We camp at Sault Ste. Marie almost yearly and he just loves watching the freighters. I enjoy them too, but not quite as much as he does. We will spend our first night at the Straits state park in St. Ignace, then on to Marquette for a night, then 6 nights (at least) in Duluth. Then start heading back by way of Wisconsin, lastly in Manitowoc to catch the Badger ferry back to Ludington, Michigan. We are really looking forward to the trip.

What did you think of the UP? We love it up there!

Main 'To Do' items have been mostly around getting our boys ready for college this fall.

Other than that, the rest of the summer has been about being at our new lake house as much as possible. We've been trying to be there from Friday to Monday most weeks. :)

FUN! I am a boat nerd, too, and the Badger is next on my bucket list ;) If you are going from Duluth to Manitowoc, you will be nearish my cabin - we are near Minong/Spooner area. Great place to be!

We had a short foray in the UP as DH was cranky and Ironwood was...blah. But, the drive there was pretty, and we hung out at a beach on Superior for a while and it was, as usual, gorgeous. Nothing like the upper Great Lakes regions! I would like to get to the Porcupine Mtns for a few days and just take it all in.

I don't know about the UP, but I do know about Duluth! I love that town. It is fun to go to the waterfront and watch the ships go by. There is a nice Lake Superior Museum which includes all the info about the ship wrecks in Lake Superior. There is also a nice mainstay restaurant named Gramdma's at the waterfront. The legend says that it was a who## house for all the sailors and that they traded for services with nautical items. The whole restaurant has these items on display! It's fun even if it is not true:)

But I think you would be missing a lot if you only stay in duluth. The North Shore is just beautiful with lots to see and do along the way. Hope you have a great trip!

We LOVE the UP. We went nearly every summer while the kids were growing up -- mainly in Au Train, between Munising and Marquette.

This year is the first we're going on any vacation since September 2020, and we'll be staying in Paradise (near Tahquamenon Falls) for 10 days (planning day trips to Sault St. Marie), then to St. Ignace for 3 days -- we've never been to Mackinac Island.
