What is Jersey Week?

In NJ all of the schools close the first thurs and fri in November for the NJEA (New Jersey Education Association) convention. Because this is the same week as election day some schools close for the whole week, or are only open Mon and Wed. Last year our schools were only open on Mon. Many NJ families take advantage of this week to head to Disney. If you go to Disney the first week in Nov expect to see lots of us. Don't worry, inspite of what is shown in the media very few of us are in the mafia, or are under 5 ft tall with big hair, and big ****s. The vast majority of us don't spend our days getting drunk at shore bars, and we hardly ever get arrested. We really are a lovely people. Go Eagles!

Thank you! As a true Jersey girl, this cracks me up as we are not this at all!
I also think when my kids were little (2001?), Veteran's Day was in the following week and we took off Thurs to Wed for vacation.

Minnie does her hair big, gets drunk and hooks up with Mickey who wears a t-shirt that he can lift up to show off his abs along with sunglasses worn at the tip of his nose indoors. All the while Bruce and Bon Jovi is playing in the backround (ok that isn't a myth, we are passionate about those singers). Jokes only a Jersey Girl can make. Of course, NO ONE, regardless of where you are from can say Joisey. Only non-Jersey people say that.

Just like we Minnesotans say "Ja, sure you betcha!" ;)

We will be there during Jersey week! Heading to the tanning bed in September to try to compete:laughing:

It is a special week where anybody wearing FSU jerseys gets in for free.

At least that's what a bus driver told me.

Don't bother with the tanning beds. You can only get that orange glow from the spray tans. Watch some House Wifes of NJ, and Jersey Shore for tips on blending with the other Jersey Girls. Learn some Bruce and Bon Jovi lyrics. You'll blend nicely.

The problem is there is an attitude you can't teach. We're nice, but not all the time. My friends and I can always pick out a non-Jersey person right away. A friend from Texas was shocked that people in NJ yell at their kids. I don't understand how else people talk to their kids. Seriously, you may want to be prepared for that...

You may not all be in the mafia or drunk but you do all have that funny accent :lmao:

I mean it may be hot it Texas but at least we don't have no funny accent :woohoo:

Make sure you practice your fist-pumping: with both hands AND with one hand while your other holds a red Solo cup. Don't forget to pack your Bump-It!

Its not just NJ thats out that week. Here in PA we are as are several areas in NY

We were there this past Jersey Week and I really looked hard to find anyone I could ask "what exit you from?" but alas, did not see anyone who was a blatant Jersey person. This doesn't affect crowds at all. In fact, the crowds were down right great except for the weekends at the Food and Wine Festival. I highly recommend going that week.

This always cracks me up as I grew up in New Jersey. My dad used to take us to Disney over Jersey week although we never called it that. However, I met SO many people my junior year in high school that were all from New Jersey and we even ran into people I used to do to school with before we moved to central jersey. The stereotypes of NJ from Jersey Shore make me laugh considering that most of them are actually from NY. My kids at school always ask me to talk like Snooki when they find out I grew up in NJ. When I tell them I don't know how, they all get very disappointed. Growing up in Atlantic County and Burlington County NJ, I can officially say I knew no one that talked like they were "from" NJ. Jersey week is no different then any other time of the year at Disney....nothing special happens. However, maybe to add a nice Jersey saying, someone could stand at the exit and ask, "Hope youz had a great day at __________ (fill in the park)!"

When we went to Orlando during Jersey Week, the bellhop asked us, "So I assume you're from New Jersey?" in the elevator.

I looked down at the SF 49er sweatshirt I was wearing and gave him a quizzical look and a chuckle.

Goes to show you that most of us don't fit the media's sterotype of what it means to be from NJ. BTW, we are not crazy about the "what exit?" thing. I find it a bit offensive. NJ is much more than the NJTpk and the NJ Parkway. It is truly a beautiful state.

I grew up a jersey girl..near red Bank/Tinton Falls area. havent been there in many many years. My brothers are still there and my husbands relatives are there and I can tell you jersey is it's own special place.

They very much have the accent. and there is nothing better than the food you can get in jersey..pizza is real italian pizza and my husbands family brings these handmade raviolis that are great and bagels..oh my!

What is up with the peace sign thing? My brother has taught my kids to flash it almost like some gang sign and I thought it was just him being odd, but then i saw some other Jersey folks doing it

jersey is unlike any other place. I have lived and traveled thru many US and there is no place like jersey
