Children over the age of 4 in strollers?

When we went to WDW in August, we were shocked to see "grown" children in strollers. Sure, your child may get tired and cranky and not want to walk any more, but isnt that when its time to take a break? Maybe go back to the hotel room and have a swim/nap/juice box? I understand that not all guests are fortunate enough to stay on site, but ther eare plenty of places to sit down in teh shade and A/C, like the Hall of Presidents and the Carousel of Progress in MK, or the American Experiance and Elen's Adventure into Electricity in Epcot, or the Festival of the Likon King in AK, or The Great Movie Ride in MGM.

If your child has walking conditions, maybe rent a wheelchair. It only costs $10, and you get the chair for the whole day. Then maybe your 10 year old wont be sprawling out of a stroller designed for a 3 year old. Plus they can push themselves around, freeing you parents to look after your other party members who really need the attention, like your partners or your other children.

Too many tired little ones for one wheelchair and think a double stroller is better? Wrong you are my friends. That is when a rest, or even taking turns in the wheelchair comes into play.

The reason I rant is because strollers take up far too much room. If you have small children, fine, it is your right to put your little ones into as many strollers as necessary. I know that wheelchairs take up as much room as strollers, but seriously, who is going to bother someone in a wheelchair? Lots of people HAVE to use wheelchairs, not every 10 year old needs a stroller.

I'm not sure why it bothers you so much. I could care less what age/size of some stranger's kid in a stroller as long as I don't have to push it. I'm sure you'll get a dozen reasons why some people do it shortly here. ;)

The UoG recommends all children under 7 be in a stroller...and who am I to argue with the WDW Bible? ;)

But, seriously, if I could squeeze my 6 year old into a stroller, I would. There's only so much "I'M TIRED!!!" that I can take before I'll want to jump into the Lagoon. And she says this after we've been walking for 2 minutes. (the idea of her in a wheelchair cracks me up though :rotfl: I'd much rather save the wheelchairs for those who REALLY need them). I don't mind if older children are in strollers...as long as I'm not run over by them. :thumbsup2

well...last year my ds was 5 and I took a stroller. he hasn't been in a stroller for years but for wdw, I borrowed my sisters. That is just far too much walking for him in one day. We WERE onsite, we DID take naps and breaks and it is still too much for little ones! Now he's 6 and we don't plan on taking one for our Christmas trip, but we don't plan on a "go go go" kind of plan. We're taking a more relaxed approach and won't have to "do it all". I wouldn't take a wheelchair for a child, that's not what they're for. There are disabled guests that truly need them. That's just imho. By the end of the day, I was glad we had the stroller.

Geez, if I could squeeze my butt into one of those umbrella strollers, you can bet I'd be shouting out "FASTER! The line at Space is gettin' HUGE! GO GO GO!!"

I'm not pushing you.

Just to clarify, I am not talking about the AGE of the child, but their SIZE. I feel sorry for the kids who get cramped into a stroller that is obviously not designed for someone as tall, and in some cases, wide, as them. its more of a rant of pity on the child's part.

Now, on with the bashing!!!!

Me too. Except I'd be worrying about the line at Splash.

Sounds like DS6, he can run around and play for hours but the minute he has to walk anywhere he's so, so tired and he can barely walk  . The last time we went DS was 5 and I did bring an extra stroller for nights.

I am bringing a double stroller for our 2yo and 4yo for our upcoming trip.

I don't really get why you care who is riding in a stroller. If my DH wants to push ME down Main Street in our Graco how is it your business? :confused3 For the record- we do take rests, but if my kids are tired of walking they will be sitting in a stroller and if you don't like that then too bad so sad. ECV's take up way more space than my strollers and no not everyone who uses one needs one for medical reasons. I happen to know someone who needs one because she is very overweight and can't walk for any period of time without her legs hurting her. Not exactly a medical reason. Should I tell her to just sit and rest after each 10 foot span that she walks? Yeah- it would take her a month to get through a park! I don't begrudge anyone. Use what you must to have a great vacation. I don't think it is anyone's business.

Sorry- I posted before I read this. Disregard my previous post. I can understand what you mean. My oldest is a big kid. At 2 he was the height and weight suggested for a booster seat! Of course we just got him a larger 5 point carseat. We have had to really search for a stroller for the boys as they are squooshed in most strollers. Maclaren just came out with a stroller that is nice and wide. I wish they made them last year when I bought mine.

You squeeze in the stroller and I'll wear my heelies so I can push you real fast!!!!:lmao:

ITA. Who cares if you're not pushing it around? The room they take up is no worse than a group of people that walk side by side blocking the whole walkway.

My younger kids will be 5 & 6 when we go in June and I'll probably rent a stroller. Their little legs only go so fast and sometimes we need to GO!

With the older/bigger kids...you just never know if there might be a disability of some kind.

I don't even notice the age/size of other kids. But we did make fun of the stroller race at the end of every night. My DH and I would park our strollers and sit and watch...sometimes making bets on the winner :rotfl: ONE night our DD wasn't feeling well and it hit her fast and it was right before Illuminations ended so we were leaving earlier then we normally did. As we're walking to the front...Illuminations ends. My DH and I look back and it was like a WAVE of strollers RUNNING towards us. We laughed, but man did we jog to get out of the way. Really, it was hilarious. Seriously. :lmao:

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The bi-monthly 5 year olds in strollers thread is almost as fun as riding in a stroller!
