What is it with....

My dd turns 6 in December....thanks for reminding me to get her a new stroller before our next trip!!;)

We went to DL when my youngest was 4 and thought he was too old for a stroller. My DH ended carrying him on his shoulders a lot. When DS was 5, we got a stroller for him. I couldn't imagine making him walk for hours on end, even with breaks. Kids get tired.

My DSIL got a stroller for her 5 year old, after just one day without one. Her DD got tired with all of the walking.

It never bothers me to see bigger kids in strollers. I never knew it bothered anyone until this thread. I can't imagine anything that could bother me less than a child in a stroller.

Children over the age of 4 in strollers?

When we went to WDW in August, we were shocked to see "grown" children in strollers. Sure, your child may get tired and cranky and not want to walk any more, but isnt that when its time to take a break? Maybe go back to the hotel room and have a swim/nap/juice box? I understand that not all guests are fortunate enough to stay on site, but ther eare plenty of places to sit down in teh shade and A/C, like the Hall of Presidents and the Carousel of Progress in MK, or the American Experiance and Elen's Adventure into Electricity in Epcot, or the Festival of the Likon King in AK, or The Great Movie Ride in MGM.

If your child has walking conditions, maybe rent a wheelchair. It only costs $10, and you get the chair for the whole day. Then maybe your 10 year old wont be sprawling out of a stroller designed for a 3 year old. Plus they can push themselves around, freeing you parents to look after your other party members who really need the attention, like your partners or your other children.

Too many tired little ones for one wheelchair and think a double stroller is better? Wrong you are my friends. That is when a rest, or even taking turns in the wheelchair comes into play.

The reason I rant is because strollers take up far too much room. If you have small children, fine, it is your right to put your little ones into as many strollers as necessary. I know that wheelchairs take up as much room as strollers, but seriously, who is going to bother someone in a wheelchair? Lots of people HAVE to use wheelchairs, not every 10 year old needs a stroller.

Mr. Smith

Just to clarify, I am not talking about the AGE of the child, but their SIZE. I feel sorry for the kids who get cramped into a stroller that is obviously not designed for someone as tall, and in some cases, wide, as them. its more of a rant of pity on the child's part.

Now, on with the bashing!!!!

If you were not talking about age but size then why did you mention an age in your first sentance?

:rotfl: Again, why would anyone possibly care about this?! Saying you observed it is one thing, but putting parents and families down for it is another. Honestly, I don't even notice who's in a stroller or not. It's not my problem or my business. And as I said, if my little cousin got tired we'd get her a stroller. We're all there to have a god time, and if her feet hurting is going to ruin her time then why wouldn't we help her out?!

For those of you saying it's horrible and irresponsible and lazy for parents to let their kids sit in a stroller I'm honestly asking, why do you care?

Mr. and Mrs. Smith, this was your response to the OP of the "leave your infants at home" thread (bolding mine):

I have no idea why this bothers so many people. My DH and I are childless right now but we do plan to have children in the next couple of years. When we do, we plan to take them whereever we go. Why not? The argument that babies don't get anything out of WDW is silly. Again, so what? They don't get anything out of the a trip to the supermarket but people take them there too. Sometimes I think that people just look for things to be bothered about.
...
Again, so what? It's vacation. What's the big deal if they stay up later than they usually would? Besides, you don't know that the parents didn't spend the afternoon in the hotel room with a napping child.

And now you're doing the same thing as that OP, but with a different topic. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Mr. Smith, please send me a picture of your calves, I want to be sure I crash into them with my double stroller next time I am at WDW.

Resorting to physical threats, eh? How mature!

Is it the age or the amount of space a stroller takes up? You have me confused.

I would say that my personal problem with older kids in strollers is that these children are bigger than the size the stroller was designed for and all these extra strollers add to the pedestrian congestion.

By the way, to the person quoting things I said in other threads: That's not going to work. Clearly, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" are two people who are entitled to two different opinions.

I don't really care how old or big the kid is in the stroller. I guess the person wants to push them for whatever reason that may be.

So you notice some big old kids in strollers OP, did those big old kids do something that bothered you?

Mr. Smith

You have obviously never done Disney with kids.

The way this thread headed south is exactly why I stay out of these fights. :sad2:

But hey, you guys are making the political fights look tame, so have at it. :rolleyes1

Children over the age of 4 in strollers?

Welp, if you saw me then you saw my 5 year old in a stroller. Too old by your "rules" I guess.

My son got into an accident at MK one evening and had to go to the hospital. We came back to MK the next day by invitation of the Guest Services Director. He was the one who suggested and then got our son a double stroller to use for the day.

Would you like his email address? You could put him in his place about why Disney should not let children over the age of 4 be in strollers and lecture him on how wrong it was for us to have a stroller that day.

By the way, to the person quoting things I said in other threads: That's not going to work. Clearly, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" are two people who are entitled to two different opinions.

Re. bolding: um, so was that you or not? :confused3

If it wasn't you, then I sincerely apologize to your better half.

As for the stroller issue, why on earth do you think that you know what is the right solution for other families when it comes to their children? Why is it that every kids-too-old-for-a-stroller thread has someone saying that those kids just need to be taken back for a "nap/swim/juice box?" Why don't you realize that I know what my kids need, not you?

I'm opting to unsubscribe. You can continue to talk about me while I'm gone.

My 5 year old fit in the stroller quite nicely.

I wasn't supprised at the number of children in strollers, what REALLY made me jump was the sight of a child who looked about 6 or 7 in a fabric baby sling.

I haven't read all the posts, but when we take our trip in April 2008, my daughter (who will be celebrating her sixth birthday on this trip) will have a stroller. She has autism and ADHD. She has low muscle tone, often doesn't walk in a straight line, sometimes bolts, and is occasionally very floppy. She doesn't need a wheelchair, but a stroller serves to provide a safe place for her when she is overwhelmed. You can't tell by looking at her that she is not a typical kid so you will probably think she is just lazy. Or maybe that we, her parents, are lazy. Glare if you feel the need. Scowl at me or at my "grown" child. We are used to it.

Ditto for my 9.5 year old Special Needs child with chronic anemia and low muscle tone.(Among other things) Our lives as moms of Special Needs children with "invisible" disabilities are tough enough - it's just harder when people are so judgemental and have to comment on things that truly don't matter.

I push my stroller with respect and have never hit anybody with it. Since I pay just as much money as everybody else - I am entitled to any of the comforts Disney has to offer so my family and I can enjoy ourselves.

Oh and being DVC members - we stay onsite, we take breaks but that's not enough for our child. He can walk but he can only handle so much and since we have other children to think about as well and THEIR enjoyment to consider - we choose to do what is best for all of us.
