What is it with the Canadians?

As a Winnipeger, I would LOVE a Disney park here! With all their imagination, I have to think somehow they'd make it feel warmer in January...!

Seriously, to answer the original question "are Canadians not visiting WDW anymore", from what I've learned, the answer is that no, they're not. We've been twice before - the first time was January, 1997, the second time January, 2000. Our first trip cost $5,200 (including air, hotel, car, meals and passes). Our second trip cost $7,500 for the same things. Oh, to go back to '97 when the exchange rate was only 1.30!!

On looking into flights for next spring, it appears they have discontinued all direct flights out of Winnipeg to Orlando. There simply aren't enough people travelling to sustain the route. So airfare now goes up a couple of hundred $ each because we have to go through Chicago or Toronto.

A trip next spring would cost:

7 nights at Boardwalk - $3000 (discounted rate)
Air fare for 4 - $2400
4 PHP (Cdn. deal) - $1540
Car rental for a week - $500
Food and misc. cash - $2500

That's just short of $10,000. For a week's vacation!!! Again I say, bring disney to Winnipeg!!!

I could be wrong, but doesn't Disney offer special discounts for US residents of certain states, at certain times?

You are correct. From time to time their are promotions for individual states. I presume there are discounts to those in other countries as well.

Hello all. My husband and I drove up to Niagara Falls, ON, for a little get away on Columbus weekend. We paid about $50 American dollars for a jacuzzi suite! We went to the casino and received $15.00 CD for every $10.00 AD! What a deal. That makes Disney seem so painful to the pocket. LOL.

NOW, if New York State could get their act together, imagine how well Niagara Falls, NY would be doing.

BTW, has anyone seen the documentary about the planes that were grounded in Canada after 9/11? The love, open arms and support given by Canadians moved me beyond words. Thank you.

And don't forget, the Canadians have apologized for Bryan Adams on several occasions!

ahh E.Jane I know how you feel. :( We are getting totally raped on our dollar everytime we go to the states :(

If it wasnt such a beautiful country to visit I wouldnt complain but it is.

And I cant elieve they have cancelled our only charter flight from the Peg to Orlando :( When we fly this Dec we are doing the good ol Wpg-Minneapolis-Orlando route...which inevitabely knocks our flight cost up another $200 each.

Between a weak *** dollar and extremely disgusting tax brackets its enough to drive me to move to Costa Rica :P

.....that would be Costa Rica via Orlando, right?!

I shouldn't have made it sound like I was complaining too much. For the same amount of money I could take the family to Mexico for the week, but I'd prefer to visit Orlando. I speak the same language, don't have to worry about the water (other than something outrageous like $6 a bottle!) and I'm guaranteed that there's enough variety to keep everyone happy!

My only complaint is that I cannot afford to go every year!

LOL yeah true...Costa Rica via Orlando.

actually its Bus from Brandon to Winnipeg, wpg to minneapolis, min to Huston, Huston to San jose.

Yeah...i wanna go there :P and for the price were paying to go to Disney world I could fly to CR and live there for a month or two. But your right, Disney is a -must- :)

I'd go more often if it wasn't for the dollar and the expensive airfare ... Disneyland Toronto, I'd love to see that :P
