I'm planning to take DS to Disney for a long weekend trip Aug 26-29. I have never stayed onsite and have never planned a trip in Aug. or summertime for that matter. So I was wondering what the crowd levels are like at that time and is it still really hot then. Would I be better off waiting and going in Sept. We just returned from a trip in mid April and the crowds were really high and would rather schedule this trip when crowds are lower. I live in a beach town and around here the last week of Aug are unpredictable....sometimes not crowded due to people getting kids ready for back to school the next week or you get the people coming for that last weekend trip for the summer. I was kind of hoping that because its back to school time that (maybe) Disney wont be overly crowded.

I've gone to WDW the last week of August for the last 3 years. The weather is hot (I love the hot weather, so it doesn't bother me). The crowds weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be. I think the longest line we waited in was 30 minutes. Some of the lines were longer, but we just used FP. I have always been quite pleased with the crowds or lack thereof in August. Just be prepared for rain every day. Not usually alot, but it does come. Just throw on a poncho and enjoy the parks. :Pinkbounc

I've gone a few times end of August. The crowds are not bad at all. Pretty much like end of September. It is incredibly HOT HOT HOT ... and ditto about the "rain every day" thing. Bring extra shoes !

and since my kids don't start school under Sept 6th, I'm going this year. Get back in town 9/5 at 9:15pm and don't care.

Yes, it is very hot. But not hotter than it is in the mid atlantic states that time of year. Bring lots of water and go swimming in the afternoon. The worst hours are between 12 - 2pm.

The crowds are much better than the rest of the summer. Kids are back to school. And even if they aren't, most people don't want to take vacation right before school starts. I love it, because it's my last hurrah before the daily grind begins.

I agree- that time of year disney slows down a bit- we like going end of august due to discounts and crowds...however it is very hot! It also ususally rains every afternoon for an hour or so.
But you will have a great time- I am jealous-we switched our trip to June this year and I know the crowds will be high!

Remember with the free dining offer beginning at the mid-end August point, it may be very crowded!

I will be there last week of August. We have been going last week of August for about three years though.

Hi, we are going at this time too, for lots of the good reasons -- great deal, free food, discounts, did I mention how affordable??? My 2 kids start pre-school the week after labor day, so I am hoping it will be a wonderful end of summer treat. BUT ... I am hoping for good weather!! :sunny: Maybe it will be unseasonably cool and unrainy? Let's keep our fingers crossed. Any hints for beating the heat from the last week of August experts out there?

As for crowds, I am getting a little worried that all these wonderful deals are going to make the end of August packed. Any opinions on this?

Anyway, even rain, heat, or massive amounts of people will not put a damper on our week of fun! I am so excited to see the 2 and 4 year old faces light up at all the magic...

Crowds arent too busy. Most of the southern states start school during the last week so its a lot less hecktic. I notice there is a large European crowd during this time but not as busy as it would be in say july.

We usually go the last week in Aug or first week in Sept and the crowds are very low. We were very spoiled - we never waited for more than 5 minutes for any ride until we attempted MK on a Sat and the waits were pretty long. No one wanted to ride on anything because we were used to short ride times for everything. Good thing we had already been to MK earlier in the week.

It is always very hot as others have said and yes it does rain almost every day.

I think it is a wonderful time of year to go

We are going this time too, 8/21-8/28! I think in general the crowds are going to be up slightly becasue of the 50th celebration...they are calling for slightly higher crowds all year. However, alot of kids are back in school and alot of people don't want to go when its that hot or during hurricane season. I am not too worried about crowds. I am just happy to be going back to WDW! :)

We've also gone the last years in late August. It is hot and the crowds are very mangeable. I carried my water bottle and spray fan and was fine.
As someone pointed out, with the free dining it may be more crowded, but still better some other times of year.

sorry but did i get that right ?? food is free in end of aug ?? do i have to register anywhere in order to get free food ?? where do you get free food ?

please tell me everything about this :)

We normally go every Labor Day Weekend. Leave earliest flight possible on Saturday before, and return on the latest flight possible the Tuesday after. Most of the kids are back in school, Fall discounted prices are in affect and it doesn't rain as much as during June and July. The High and Low tempatures are virtually the same as mid July, but the rain fall isn't nearlly as bad. Check the Farmers Almanac. www.farmersalmanac.com.
