What is Indiana Jones like?

I've never been to DL and DH and I are thinking about taking a vacation out there in the next couple of years.

Is the ride a roller coaster? simulation ride? really fast?

I see you're from Florida so I assume you've been to WDW...

It's the same type of ride as Dinasour at AKL, if that helps, only themed after Indiana Jones. There's a description of the ride HERE

They are cars/Jeeps that drive on Im assuming a track but look slike a concrete road. The car goes up and down kind of crazy like making you thrash around a good bit. You are seat belted in!! You go through a mini story of indiana Jones and in the end he rescues your entire car. Its definatly like Dinasaur in Florida. Its gets long ques so make sure to fast pass that ride. I have even seen lines there as late as Midnight.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been to WDW here, but only to Epcot, MGM, and MK. I haven't been to AK yet, so unfortunately I haven't tried Dinosaur. Thanks for the link though, I'm checking it out as I type.

Also for Pirates of the Caribbean (it sounds like there are bigger and more plunges on this one than the one here)? (In case you couldn't tell, I'm kind of a scary ride/coaster chicken)

You should be fine no big drops no real speed and NO upside down on either.

Indy ride is just a jeep if you ask for middle row middle seats you get pitched a little less.

PotC has some drops but only about 10ft or so in the dark (NO Splash Mt. here maybe Malstroum in Epcot at best.)With that being said I do think the DL version is better.

I am the BIGGEST roller coaster chicken. As a matter of fact, I've never been on a real roller coaster...I refuse. I did get on a kiddie roller coaster once at a carnival, and screamed the whole time! All the little kids were wondering...what's up with that strange lady?

Anyway, I got the nerve up to try both Pirates and Indy on my trip to DL. Pirates was just fine. I am glad I tried it and I went on it twice during my trip.

The drop was just like going down a short kiddie slide at a playground. Not bad at all.

Indie, on the other had was a little more rough. Truth be told, I can't tell you exactly what happens on the ride because my eyes were closed 90% of the time. You are in a jeep and it twists and turns really fast. I was sitting in an outside seat and I really had to hold on tight b/c I thought I was going to flip out of the vehicle...I'm sure I was perfectly safe...but I felt like I could go at any time. I might be convinced to try it once more if I go there again, but I'd be very sure I was seated in the MIDDLE...I'm still not sure if I'd be able to open my eyes though..

Kindred Spirit!! Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in WDW made me cry. DH had to lead me to a corner where I could just sob.

Glad to hear that POTC isn't too horrible. I read a thing about it that says you "drop 3 stories into the land of the pirates" or something like that and panicked b/c POTC in WDW has been DH's favorite for AGES, so I know he will want to go on the DL version whenever we get to go there.

I'm still not sure about Indy (fortunately, I have some time to decide). I probably won't go on Dinosaur here, even when we do go to AK b/c the thought of the huge dinosaurs yelling at me just freaks me out. The dinosaurs with Ellen in Epcot make me nervous, so I figure it's safe to assume the Dinosaur ride is out of the realm of possibility for me...but there's no dinosaurs on Indy...

My suggestion:

Ride it.

In my opinion, it is the best ride Disney has made in the states. It has yet to let me down. Either you will have a great time and love it, or you will come back on here in a few months and chew me out for even suggesting to ride it.

And if you decide not to ride it, and the line is short, at least walk through the queue. It in itself is an attraction.

It's a rough ride, a real white knuckler, no question about it. I wouldn't suggest it for everyone, and if your back is prone to "going out" I'd definitely say skip it. It's not a roller-coaster fall type ride, more of a bucking bronco kind of thing, if that makes any sense.

That's a very accuaret description. After many trips with Indiana being refrubished we finally got to ride it last Oct. Visually, it's a great ride, lots of details in decor. It was just too jerky for me to enjoy. I rode it once with ds and that was enough for me. Dh had to rode it with ds after that. I agree with Nautilus, you should at least try it once to see if you like it though.

Keep your eyes open! You are perfectly safe, and that is where the magic happens! I almost feel cheated when we don't have to wait in line, because we miss out on all of the great things to look at throughout the line.

What is the age appropriateness of the ride? I know the height restriction -- and my DD6 makes it, but I'm not sure if it's child-appropriate? She also doesn't know anything about the movie.

The drops on pirates are actually taller then 10 feet here are the stats for the drops: First Drop: Length - 52 feet Angle - 21 degrees Second Drop: Length - 37 feet Angle - 21 degrees

The first drop is actually the same as the splash mountain drop at 52-and-a-half foot drop at a 45-degree angle

However the pirates drop you fell more like you are on a slide then plunging down. And the pirates drop is completely in the dark.

My advice for Indy is don't sit on the end you feel like you are going to fall out of the jeep going through some of the sharp turns!

Visit Tell No Tales, a fan site dedicated to Pirates of the Caribbean.

The DL version is much better than the Florida version. It has more caverns, more vignettes, and two drops instead of one.

Of course, what it's going to be like after the refurb is anyone's guess. But I understand they're putting in new special effects that are really spectacular.

And here I thought I was a coaster wuss. lol If I can handle MaliBoomer and Tower of Terror, only getting a little green around the gills, anyone can handle POTC and IJ.

Think of POTC as a fairly calm boat ride down a canal, with a couple of small drops thrown in. Merely a 1 on a coaster scale of 1-10 (California Screamin' is probably in the 9 range).

IJ might rate a 2, but only because it's jerking you around so much. If you've ever ridden an ATC or gone 4-wheelin' over rough terrain (or even watched such a thing on tv), that's IJ. Heck, I even joked that it compares to my wife's driving. It's a bucking bronco on a flat course.

If you've been on POTC in WDW, and are familar with the drop on that ride, then you'll be okay in DL. It's the same drop (or close to it), you just do it twice rather than once. My mom is a roller coster chicken, and was nervous about DL's POTC too, but I talked her into it and she's glad she did it, she handled the drops just fine.

Anyway, as for Indy, I've never ridden it but I've been on Dinosaur in WDW. If you have back or neck problems DO NOT RIDE. If you get car sick DO NO RIDE. If you have neither of these problems, you'll be okay, but it will be very bumpy and very loud. Think of going off-roading in a Jeep through really rough terain, if you think you could handle that, then you should be okay on the ride.

Indiana Jones is the best ride at DL, we just love it and all what you see when you are queueing just adds to it all.
Not a great lover of POTC but we do it once each time we visit, though have to say that its better then the one at WDW(IMO).

I would have to say that Indiana Jones is my favorite ride! It is one of the things I wish WDW had! I love everything about it!
PoTC is also better at DL than WDW.
Neither one of these are like Big Thunder Mountain. I think you will be just fine!
