I see that alot on the menus at WDW & I have never eaten it before. I know it's some kind of sauce but what does it taste like & is it sugary? Alot of people must like it! If something has hummus or mayo can you ask to get your stuff w/out it?

I think it is ground up/mashed chick peas. I would not expect it to be sweet. A co-worker of mine used to eat it all the time.

Hummus is ground up chick peas usually with garlic ans sometimes lemon made into a paste... very yummy.
As for special requests you can do it but just be prepared to wait awhile. They have CS options usually made up ahead to keep things speedy so asking for a change takes them a little bit (usually 10 minutes or so).
Good luck! :goodvibes

mashed chick peas...its the food of the devil....dont do it

Now, now, now...I happen to like hummus, I love garbanzo beans (or ceci beans or chickpeas---they go by several names) and like a garlicky hummus with pita chips. The recipe is easy--drain and mash beans, season as desired (minced garlic, pepper, few drops of lemon juice, dash of salt and olive oil). :wizard:

Yuck! I knew it would be a food I wouldn't like!. I'll just stay away from anything that has hummus on it!

No offense, but how do you know you don't like it if you've never tried it? Hummus is a major ingredient in many Middle Eastern foods and is also used frequently in Greek cuisine. A lot of people (myself included) think it is delicious. It's very popular in NYC. I don't like chickpeas, but I love hummus, and am a little sad to see it being so solidly condemned without even a taste.

Oh you must try it! It is creamy goodness! I cannot live without Hummus!

It does not have the texture of a chickpea (though I could eat those right out of the can) anymore and tastes soo good especially on a pita!

Well, I don't like chickpeas and I don't like hummus either. Can't get past the texture. Tried it once and that was enough. I too stay away from anything like that now.

Hummus blended with fresh minced garlic and other spices is absolutely delicious !

Makes a fantastic dip for a raw veggie platter and toasted pita points.

That's a meal in itself, and a healthy one at that. Try it at least once !!

:thumbsup2

Good to know. Thanks for asking this question. I always wondered too. I will try it, but I am an adventurous eater, so will try most anything.

Is now a bad time to bring up how delicious babaganoush can be ?

:goodvibes

I am not particularly picky, but this is one thing I do not care for. I can think of soooo many better things to dip my pita chips in!!

Yes, definately one of those things - you either like it or you don't. I love chick peas too. For years now (YEARS!) I've had a hummus sandwich (hummus on double fiber wheat bread) and a salad for lunch ... and yep -- chick peas on the salad. I just can't get enough! :thumbsup2

If I remember, they have a hummus sandwich at Columbia Harbor House don't they? I ate there in 2006 and remember it being good.

It really is quite yummy. If you don't feel like making it(or can't find the tahini thats goes in it) check out your grocery store for some. Sabra is a great brand. I usually get the garlic, but they have lots of other flavors. There are other brands out there, but I don't like them as much as this or homemade. Also hummus is great in a warm pita with falafels. (I bake mine instead of frying them so its much healthier) Alternately you could just load up a pita with hummus and a bunch of veggies for a decent sandwich. My 7 year old neice absolutely loves it like that.

I wouldn't call it adventurous. I have put it in the center of veggie plates at parties and even my picky people at my parties chomp it up. I think if you just taste it without worrying about it you will more than likely like it. Just think of it as chip dip. I smear it on turkey sandwiches in lieu of mayo to bring down the calorie count. It is a a great sub for high fat spreads.

I agree that Sabra is the best store brand hummus. My fave is the roasted red pepper. It isn't spicy at all, but it has great flavor.
