DonnaS-- thanks for the explanation. It's good to know that it might not qualify for carry-on if expanded. Mine doesn't look like it makes that much of a difference, though.
RU-- I'm sure I will take lots of photos; maybe I will post some online now that I know you're interested. I'll be mostly attending the conference, but then I'm spending 3 days with one of my best friends who lives there. I should start working out in preparation; she is very outdoorsy and puts me to shame. I've visited her up there twice and went at least once as a kid. It is really nice, but I was light-headed and panting after flying up there from below sea level (New Orleans) and immediately going on a hike around her ranch. We'll probably spend most of our time planning our trip to Paris, anyway.
