Yesturday they opened up to Aug 24 and today the prices are sky high!!!!

Any thoughts on if they will come down soon??

thanks

We were shocked when we got on last evening and found almost all of the flights options we wanted to be sold out already. . .Something is going on!
And I had been waiting for those so long!! :(

Ditto...not worth the wait...I will keep checking SWA and all the others

When airfare prices first came out for our Jan. trip, lowest rate was $158 one way....eventually prices dropped and we flew for $79.00 each way. If you buy now and wait for a drop in price, you end up with Ticketless Travel Funds (which have pros/cons). Hard to wait, I know, but keep checking SWA.:3dglasses

We have all become spoiled by SW cheap prices in the past. They are now pricing where they feel they need to be to continue to be a profitable airline. Yes, there will still be bargains to be found, but they will be fewer and for shorter time frames. I for one will just alot more cash out of my vacation fund to cover airfare in the future, as I don't expect prices to drop much if any. We will still fly SW because we love the NS from IND to MCO, but everyone will have to make their own choices based on their needs. Good luck in the future. JMO

Unless you work for Southwest, how do you know that "they are now pricing where they feel they need to be to continue to be a profitable airline". I, for one, will continue to wait and do believe that they are overpriced now for what the market will pay.

My brother used to work in the Revenue Dept. at Delta. He said to always be patient when buying tickets. You are clearly taking a gamble, but to wait until about the three month mark. That is when the airline makes some drop in prices, IF and only IF, they have not sold enough seats on a particular flight. So keep checking the "available seat" section for the flight you want.

We are trying really hard to wait because I am so tired of looking at rates, I just want to give up and buy! But the prices for us are terrible. . .$150 more per ticket than we paid 2 summers ago!

I could kick myself as I checked our flights the very second I got the DING showing they had opened up dates to August...fare was less than $99 each way. Today it's $169 -- Arghh!!!

Maybe sanity is breaking out???

NAH..it's the airlines. Flying you and I for less then cost is thier business model.:rotfl:

I think SW is actually undergoing some "pricing changes" Just look at the DINGS. Lately they have been for "specific" flights and days not the across the board they first came up with. I think SW will see what they can sell at the prices they list at and THEN decide if they will offer a sale or if it would be more profitable to fly with empty seats and passengers paying more.

If the DIS is a good indicator (and it may not be) lots of folks don't buy "new tickets" when there is sale, but "trade down" thereby cutting SW's profit per passenger. SW's model is a little different from the DL or other "major" airlines due to the "no penalty" pricing structure and I don't think they have really taken advantage of that.

THE HECK WITH SW, FLY JETBLUE INSTEAD, THEY'RE AWESOME!

I'll be flying out on SW on the next trip, and flying back JetBlue. Should be interesting....

Too bad Jet Blue has no directs from BUF >MCO though. really adds to the travel time... but considering the other option is paying $60/person more in taxes, I will enjoy my time flying out of the States! :)

I bet the prices will drop closer to your travel dates. I just bought tix for our february trip a few days ago. We leave on the 27th.
I have plan b, c, and d though.

I don't know where we are staying this vacation still, not even what city and i don't have a rental car yet. i am in no big hurry. :rolleyes1

I truly hope so, could kick myself for not booking AT (even though it was a connecting flight).

They are a business, seem to be "challenging the market";) ; assume they'll drop the prices if they don't fill 'er up.:thumbsup2

just hope i don't miss the right DING.

Have you looked for other airports that may be local or even a bit further to you that JetBlue might fly from?

Thanks, I have KSoda. We usually use Philly, Atlantic City or Allentown airports. Jet Blue does not fly out of these.
They do, however, fly out of Newark, NJ with is about 2 hours north from me. So the cost would really have to justify the extra driving time. I can get to Philly & Allentown airport in about 50 min, so a drive to Newark is over twice the drive one way.
It would have to be a really sweet deal for me to do that. So far, SWA DINGS have been my best friend. Including this trip coming up in 10 days, I will have been to WDW 4 times in the past 12 months. But if they (DINGS) don't materialize in the future, I will entertain Air Tran out of PHL, or Spirit out of AC or Allegient out of Allentown before I turn to Jet Blue because of the distance. Like I said, Jet Blue would have to be a really good fare for me to drive to the extra distance to Newark. So come on Jet Blue....give me a reason to try you......;)

I looked at JetBlue for 4/21 to 4/27, PIT-JFK-MCO (no non-stops). The cheapest flights on the list totaled $313 roundtrip. I got SW non-stop for $252 for the flight times I wanted (not the cheapest) minus a $70 credit from another trip.
