I looked on Expedia.com for Dec 3-10, and almost everything is partially booked. Dec 10-17 is pretty much free. Am I missing something? Why is one week so much more busy than the other?

Its Pop Warner week at WDW that first week.

And they film the Christmas Parade for broadcast on Christmas morning. A lot of people like to go for that (I'm not quite sure WHY though....).

Yikes. What day is that happening?

I wanted ressie at a value for dec9-11 and they were booked. I am settling on Caribbean Beach because all the other moderates were booked too!

NOw that I think about it, isn't POP warner week a good thing? More people in the hotels, but less people in the parks overall bc everyone will be at POP warner? Is that true at all?

When we were there that week in 2003 we didn't really notice them much at all in the parks. I think they are mainly at their events during the day. We did see them at night a little, especially at DTD but they didn't seem to impact park attendance much.

The Pop Warner people would probably be mostly at Value and Moderates. We stayed at AKL and didn't see any there.

Also this is a very, very busy time for DVC. Many owners, us included, don't like to use their points on weekends so they pay cash. Therefore, the weekend bookings are up at the Disney resorts. I suspect a lot of locals come for the weekend too, for the Christmas festivities, which increases demand.

I know the weekends are pretty full at the resorts, but there is a lot of availability during the week. Try to search for dates without the weekends and you might be able to find more availibility if you don't mind switching resorts.

Does anyone know what day they do the filming of the Parade? We will be there Nov 30 - Dec 7... usually try to avoid the crowds by thinking opposite the masses. But "The Very Merry Christmas Parade" was my first Disney Parade... and probably therefore my favorite so I definitly want to catch it this trip... but probably on a different day. Thanks for the heads up about Pop Warner... guess I better get more than my travel arrangements firmed up!

It is probably going to get even more busy with the new discount package coming out that is good for stays of Late Oct.-12/25.

Historically, it is not too busy the week of the 15th/December. Why? ????

It is also, CM discount weekend, so DTD is crowded, but the parks are not.
I also think, lots of locals are there then.

Historically, 1st week of December is crowded.

could you tell me more about the new discount that is coming out late October through Christmas? I am going the 11 -17th and want to know if it will be cheaper. Thanks

No one knows yet, at this point it is a rumor from very reliable insiders... it looks like it will be out Wednesday or Thursday. Just keep an eye on the resort discount/code board and I'm sure that you will find it.

And don't forget Mousefest and the big meet at the Swan on Dec. 3rd I think. They also have lots of other scheduled get togethers.

According to what I've read on these boards, the christmas parade is filmed the first weekend in dec.

For the past few years the Christmas Parade is the usually the first weekend in December.

I actually don't know what the new package will be either. However, about 10 days ago we received an email pin for a package for those dates. It was the family of 4 package they normally advertise for $1500 for something like $1100. I read it a few times then got rid of it. We are still leaning more towards January so it wasn't going to help me any. The same thing happened right before they announced the free dining package to the public, people started getting email pins to book it first.
