What is everyone's favourite 'Good neighbour hotel?'

Why?

Because it is close and has the following:
McDonalds close by = good when your on a budget
Pizza Hut on third floor
Great view into Disneyland - on our first visit it was cool to see haunted mansion and the top of splash and listen to the fireworks show etc...
Millies restaurant
Good price and for my family of five the extra pullout single sleeper was nice.
pool was just ok

We REALLY like the Desert Inn but have never stayed at HOJO. Although I don't think either are officially "good neighbor" hotels.

Another vote for the Candy Cane Inn. It's a notch above a lot of the others for quality furnishings, lovely grounds and breakfast offerings. Plus it's got plenty of free parking, and the shuttle is a GREAT option for going home at the end of the night when you're tired. The walk is easy--probably comparable to 3-4 blocks.

One hotel I'd like to try sometime is the Anaheim Sheraton. It's not as easily walkable, but it's also got a shuttle, and it looks really nice.

Ive stayed at Park Place many times and like it because its close and clean. But the other hotels next to the crosswalk are almost as close so I wouldnt pick one over another based on one being farther because its only a matter of a a few yards. The actual room you get at the hotel is more important. The farthest room at Park Place is probably 4 times as far from the crosswalk as the nearest room and farther than the nearest rooms at a bunch of the other hotels near the crosswalk. The parking really sucks at Park Place but Ive read its just as bad at all the other hotels near the crosswalk.

Ive also stayed at HOJO and Candy Cane and didnt like how far they were. These are all significantly farther and we usually ended up taking ART from Hojo and the shuttle from Candy Cane.

I have stayed at HOJO, Best Western Park Place, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn Maingate, Ramada Inn Maingate and Camelot Inn. Camelot Inn was by far my favorite of all those. Our room was big and it was within walking distance to the parks. The front desk personnel were great. HOJO would be my second favorite but it is further away.

I am glad to hear that Desert Inn and Suites is getting votes. I have wanted to try that hotel.

We've stayed at Carousel Inn, Del Sol, HOJO ( 1 night stay) and most recently Park Vue Inn.

Favorite was definitely Park Vue Inn. So close, slept well (didn't hear a thing- but we always choose upper floor so we don't hear all that running and tromping around over our heads), nice breakfast, big pool, comfortable rooms.

Hated Del Sol. Beds were awful! Parking was awful, place just looked and felt so run down.

Carousel Inn was okay. Room was small. Nothing special at all.

Hojo- only stayed one night. Nice grounds, pleasant staff, loved the indoor corridors. Super quiet! Love the entertainment book rate! We drove to the park instead of walking so I can't comment on that. But we are staying again in a few weeks for 2 nights. I haven't decided if we will walk this time or drive and park. Hmmmm....

Sometime I'd love to try BWPPI and Candy Cane Inn.

I'm not sure if it's techinically a "good neighborhor hotel" (not exactly sure what that means anyway.) But we've only stayed at the Anaheim Plaza. While it's an older hotel...we really liked it (especially the price of $69 a night.) It has a big pool which was nice in the afternoon when it was 108 degrees out. Our room had a microwave and fridge. The walk from our room to the turnstiles was about 10-15 minutes which isn't bad at all. (I know some people think it's far but they must be even more out of shape than me...haha.) On the walk to the park, you pass a Denny's which was nice to stop in and grab some breakfast in the morning. Or dinner and/or a snack on the way back to the hotel at the end of the day. I also really like that both times we've stayed there I haven't been able to hear other guests in the hotel while in my room. Nor could we hear the freeway.

My vote so far is the park vue.... I believe its the closest , just walk outside the front of the hotel and the cross walk is right there. I have stayed at the Tropicana, HoJos, Main gate, Camelot, and to me nothing can really beat the value, the beds are pretty comfortable and not to mention they have spas in the rooms so after a nice day at the park you can relax . I do like that you get to choose more breakfast items at the park vue then the Tropicana. IHOP is in the same parking lot and they just recently added a cold stone to the hotel. Staff is always nice and they give you free tooth brushes, combs, toothpaste, and some basic travel necessities if you forget it, this is for free
:cheer2:

In order of preference

HoJo (8 min. walk and that's with 2 kids, see below for ages. The kids LOVE the water area and they are old enough that they understand the difference between rest and play time. Also, we tend to get AP's so we skip Saturdays, then we can spend all of Saturday at the hotel playing in the pool/water play area. Free parking and you can leave your car in the lot after you check out)
CCI (love the free breakfast and shuttle, free parking and they let you leave your car on your check out day. Walk from here was about 10 min.)
Tropicana (right across the street, nice rooms, nice pool)
BWPPI (decent hotel but we only stayed 1 night so I don't know about the grounds really)

These are all comparably priced except the HoJo. If you can get the Ent Rate the "distance" makes it well worth it for us. And you can take ART as well if you don't want to walk.

We stayed at Camelot earlier this year and really enjoyed it. From our room, we had a view of the Matterhorn and McDonalds.

I am seriously considering HoJo, but am not sure.

The complimentary breakfast at Camelot was good - their coffee was very acceptable for a Washingtonian (who just about went through coffee withdrawls - sorry but the DL coffee is not acceptable - only exception is the coffee at Cafe Orleans which was ok).

If we don't stay at Camelot or Hojo, which other hotels have a good complimentary breakfast? And is there a good hotel with a decent video game room? (My son wants to know, as the Camelot game room was awful!!)

I don't know about the game room (or if there even IS one...) but the Candy Cane Inn has a very nice complimentary breakfast--best one I've had in that area.:thumbsup2

According to all these maps as well as Alex Stroup's "How Far is It" guide, Best Western Park Place Inn is the closest to the crosswalk:

I'm pretty sure that Park Vue Inn is the second closest, with Tropicana following as the third.

i would say that the park vue inn is maybe a might closer.. but they would be equal.. the only place right in front of the crosswalk is the ihop.. next to that on the left.. as you look at it is the pirate reastaurant thing then the hotel next to that..

If we are not staying on site..then we stay at the Holiday Inn on Walnut. Even though it is only a block away, it has a shuttle to Disneyland..the rooms are nice and clean , there is an onsite resturant and when we were there kids ate free. I think there is a fridge and microwave.. i'm not sure.. but when we go in early oct, i'll let you know.

Plus with the rates we get there. it's a nice place to go for a weekend trip. This trip was $78.67.

I haven't stayed at HOJO yet.. but it is the place that they picked for the Disboard's Ladies Only trip in march.. so i'll post what it is like when i return from that trip.

Good Luck with Your choices.:goodvibes

CCI has a great breakfast!! If they room rates like HoJo we would stay there every time! :)

I prefer (and always recommend) staying at a Disney property but, for the few occasions when we haven't, we've had good luck with the Anaheim Marriott Suites.

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/snaas-anaheim-marriott-suites/

I love that the kids can be put to bed in the bedroom but DH and I can close the door and enjoy the family room area, watch TV, get room service etc... They do not offer free breakfasts but the Starbucks downstairs is definitely appreciated. ;) There is a fee for internet access but self-parking is free. There is a Coco's, Red Robin and Outback Steakhouse within walking distance.
