What is DVC waiting for re: May cancellations?

I think you’d see at least the pools open, but the problem with the restaurants is that those are not in the control of DVC.

It could be the same with the pool too, I could also see that QS would be open for mobile ordering and take out only,

Pretty sure the CDC gave guidance that chlorine inactivated the virus, and I will bet that Disney will chlorinate the crap out of those pools for a good long while.

I guess the real concern is the hustle and bustle around the pool itself. Can people walk around the pools and maintain a safe distance from each other?

There was internet chatter about reducing sit-down restaurant capacity to 50% so all tables could be placed at least 6’ away from each other. Disposable menus as well. Not sure how much truth there was to it all.

But if there was a pre-June 1st soft opening, I agree that almost all dining would be QS to-go.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing. Will people come just for the resorts and nothing else? I highly doubt it. At least, not enough people in large enough numbers to justify the time and expense of reopening resorts with even minimal staffing.

No need to worry about the expense not a penny out of Disney's pocket we have already paid for it in our dues.

With regards to pools, while chlorine kills the virus you still need to follow the CDC advise on social distancing.

• Stay at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people
• Do not gather in groups
• Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings

This makes for a pretty miserable pool experience. Lifeguard yells "everybody stay in your 3' square you have 5 more minutes till we rotate in the next group."

I think the pools will be closed and the water parks too. Especially since Disney already announced to their CP recruits that were to be lifeguards that they were not needed.

Yes, that was kind of my point. Opening just the resorts with no theme parks is unappealing enough. Just the resorts with no theme parks and no pools/water parks make it even more unlikely that people will bite.

It might not be a question of whether people will bite or not. Like we have been discussing in the other thread, DVC is totally separate from any of the parks. As long as DVC hotels are actually "open" for business it will fulfill the point problem going forward and it would fulfill the legal end of it in everyone's contracts.

From what I am reading, the longer closed the bigger this point problem will become. It could be a real problem going forward for years. So it might be beneficial for them to open and say Hey we are open if you want to come parks or no park pools or no pools.

There probably would be locals and people that live within driving distance who would still go. Social distancing would not be a problem in some of the bigger resorts like OKW, and SSR

In a quick summary, if ALL local and Statewide orders are dropped, from wording in the contract, DVC "legally" have to open up their hotels ASAP. Now just talking legally here and what it says in the contracts. Nothing more.

They haven’t cancelled my April 28th reservation yet. I figure it's coming this week.

They haven’t cancelled mine yet either and it’s for April 26-May 1. They took my fast passes and ADR weeks ago, but not the reservation.

edit: Just checked and they finally canceled it. Now there is the countdown to our November trip.

If they have to open once all those orders are lifted - but no parks, no pools, no sit-down dining - I just wonder who would voluntarily burn points for that type of visit. If you were up against a deadline to use points, then sure. But given the option, who wouldn't defer their trip?

Has anyone been able to book in May in the last few weeks?

I have been watching availability in the last 2 weeks of May and nights open up in blocks of dates which looks like cancelled reservations.

They mostly disappear at the end of the day. I was thinking of was expiring June points being used just to try to get something on the off chance the resorts opened up before 6/1. I am ow wondering if it might be DVC blocking out the rooms so they have less to cancel

We have a trip planned at the end of August to use points that will expire. They are banked points from 2018 into out September 2019 year. I am excited to have booked VGF 2 bedroom for several nights. These points were supposed to have been used for a trip in March that had to be cancelled. I guess that I am an outlier as well....

If I had points to use and lived within driving distance, I would stay just for the resort, too. I'm not sure how I'd feel about flying if we're still in a situation where we need to maintain social distance. Unless I felt confident we were already immune.

IMO Disney/DVC is leaving all reservations (cash, package and point) in place so they have some way to gauge the interest in visiting their resort.
If you read any of the WDW closure
threads you know that there are some who are willing to be there opening day, some who are waiting to see what “modified experience” will be implemented or those who will not return until a vaccine comes out.
The only way to convey to Disney your willingness to come is to have a reservation. And if you have no plans on going then cancel.

We would gladly burn points even if that meant no parks, pools, or sit down dining. I'd rather burn points on a stay doing nothing than just losing them all together.
