What is DVC waiting for re: May cancellations?

Looking for some advice on how to handle our June trip, 6/21 - 6/28. We are not planning on going, too many restrictions to make this first time trip for our great niece and enjoyable one. I know there are still many unknowns, but am I better off waiting to see if they cancel on me, therefore getting my 2019 points rolled into next year? What is the latest you would wait to cancel?

You want to make sure to cancel before the time frame your points would go into holding. They will most likely be open by June 21 so I wouldn't count on Disney canceling.

I would cancel ASAP. I don’t think you will be given late banking unless they are closed and I think they will be open by then.

If you passed your banking window then wait it out a bit but once a decision for open is announced I am expecting all rules to be normal including holding g.

CM just told me that my res starting on 5/23 will auto-cancel on 5/18. Not "could" or "might", but "will".

She also confirmed that they are indeed spacing the cancellations out because their systems would be overloaded if there were mass cancellations all at one time.

I’m just waiting for them to cancel my May 22 trip. I already cancelled airline tickets and rebooked for thanksgiving

It was kind of weird. When she told me that the res *was* going to cancel on 5/18, I very specifically asked her if she was 100% certain. When she said yes, I then asked why they don’t just cancel if they know they are going to cancel. That’s when she told me they were staggering the actual cancellations due to “system capacity”.

When I reached out later on another issue, the CM in that chat session told me cancellation wasn’t a certainty, but “80% likely”. When I asked how could it be any less than “100% likely” given that the parks are closed on my arrival date, he mentioned that the resort may still be open even if the parks are not.

I thought I would share that I emailed membership satisfaction to get clarification on the banked Aug UY 2018 points that a CM mentioned to you would be given 6 months extension if you had them,

That was incorrect. There is no plan in place right now to extend any 2018 banked points from Aug UY and beyond and that RCI will
be the only option if one can’t use them,

They also mentioned that Aug and Sept UY 2019 points would be extended by the closure only, which you know,

I got the sense that as soon as an opening is announced, this will no longer apply to any reservations beyond opening date,

Granted, things could change if they don’t open before a August, but just thought I would share!

ETA: I thought it was interesting that they specifically only mentioned 2019 points Aug and Sept UY to be given late banking if reservations are during the closure , I took that as a good sign we will see June dares open because Oct UY banking isn’t up until May 31st.

We have a quick trip booked for May 9-10, which has not be auto canceled yet. When I check the RAC just out of curiosity, it showed some availability at Poly and GF for May 3-6. I thought that was really weird! Any thoughts...

I think we are seeing rooms show up that are canceled by owners and then showing up before dates are being pulled by DVC
