What is Downtown Disney ?

We will be staying at POFQ in June with DD6 and DS3. I see that we can take a boat to Downtown Disney from POFQ, but I'm not even sure what is there, and if it is somthing my little ones will like. Also when is the best time to go there.

Its an area Disney themed full of shops and restaurants. Its great anytime the evenings can get crazy especially the weekends. We stay at POR when we go and the boat ride is awsome. Have fun.
