What is a "pass" ?

I see this new thing, a "pass" ... but since I didn't read Yavn's newsletter last week I don't know what it is. Could someone please explain it for me? (Or is there an old newsletters archive somewhere?)

When you click to get into a host event, there is no longer a limited number of people in line, and while you are in line you can get a pass and do other things while waiting to get in.
