There used to be a show on TV called "The Mickey Mouse Club." The kids who starred on the show were called the "Mousketeers."
The show isn't on anymore, but sometimes children who are at Disney and are attending Disney events are called Mousketeers. You may hear a cast member say "Come on Mouseketeers, clap your hands!" or whatever instruction they're giving.
When the Mickey Mouse Club debuted, many of the TV shows of the time were "wild west" shows set in the 1800's or so (with musket or rifle toting men on horseback). In fact, Disney had its own musketeer, Davy Crockett (story based on a real person).
I remember as a kid being totally disinterested in those shows (incl. Davy Crockett) and going into another room to play while everyone else in the family gathered around the TV. One show I did like was Superman, although I did not comprehend the story and plot back then.
I had to lough when I read about musketeer... In German it calls "Musketier" and when I was a child I thought it meens "Muskeltier" (Muskel = muscle and Tier = animal) I had the Imagination of a big strong Man like a dangerous animal...
You could send in your name and address, and you used to get an "Offical" Mouseketeer certificate in the mail, The form was printed on the cardboard that seperated the rows in a shredded wheat box (I'm showing my age)
I think that you were supposed to be a 'wll behaved" kid and always happy(?) I remember they had a lot of stuff to do, arts and craft etc.
