I am trying to learn DVC and all this terminology. Would someone please tell me what a "Lockoff" is? Thanks!

A lock off is a type of 2 BR, made up of a 1 BR plus a studio with a shared connecting door.

Depending on the traveling party, some people prefer a lock off, so a second couple gets their own private entrance and mini fridge, for example. Some people, like those with small kids prefer a dedicated 2BR,so there is no extra door for anyone to sneak out.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

A lock-off is a 2 bdr villa that is made up of a 1 bdr villa and a studio. It will have 2 doors in and a connecting door between the 2. It will also have a kitchen and a kitchenette.
Compared to a dedicated 2 bdr which only has one door in and a kitchen.

In addition, a lock-off has it's own HVAC control in the studio so each bedroom can control the temperature separately.

And each half will have its own telephone number.

In all WDW DVC except OKW, the second bedroom in a lockoff will have a queen bed and a double sofabed (because it's actually a studio), where most of the dedicated 2 bedrooms have 2 queens (except some at BCV). Another consideration when choosing.

Another thing is that there are actually 2 connecting doors which can be pretty scary with small kids because they have the ability to accidentally lock themselves in the room. Each of the 2 connecting doors only has a door knob on one side. If your little kid is in one room and they slam the door and also have that swing bolt thing on the main door they could get trapped by themselves until you figure out how to get in.
