I have a neighbor who is moving to Virginia. I like her but will probably never see her again. We are having brunch next Mondy and I wanted to get her something. Any ideas? Don't want to spend a lot.

At first I was thinking stamps, writing paper, etc but w/ computers everyone emails and doesn't write.

You could put together a basket of things that are "regional" (like the stuff in the regional food thread on this board)...

What part of Virginia is she moving to? You might consider a gift certificate for a local restaurant in that area...it could be a chance for her to get out and "explore" her new area.

Maybe a calling card? She can call her friends and save $$$ on long distance charges...

Hey Jen, I know you won't be able to give this to her at lunch, but what about a gift basket sent to her new house? That way, it's nothing that she has to move with her and possibly lose.

Hey Beth - that's a good idea but I don't want to go to the brunch empty handed. This lady was in MOPS with me and your sister- her name is Dawn K. if you want to tell her. Maybe your sister has ideas from when she moved.

When a friend fo mine moved from here (Boston area) to Ireland I gave her a set of coasters with different scenes of Boston on them. It was small, useful for the new place, easy to pack and a remembrance of where she lived. Something like that would be nice. Good luck and it's nice of you to be so thoughtful.

I love this idea! Now - where to find some :scratchin

Gift card to a restaurant where she will be living. It could be a great break from the settling in process and it is easy to carry with you.

If there aren't any good restaurants where she is going, gift cards for fast food might be good for the drive and the settling in week.

I like this idea too. You don't want to give her anything she has to "move" and the first few days in a new home are too hectic to really cook anything.

Any gift store that carries collectible type stuff. Even the bigger Hallmark stores often have stuff like that. I just like the idea of something meaningful. I know practical gift cards for food and things are nice but less personal. I guess it depends on the person. Good luck!
