All, I have searched the internet for a real explaination of what a digital card reader is and I still don't quite know what it is and how to use one. Can someone please explain this to my pea-sized brain;) I have an idea but wanted to know for sure. Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

a card reader is a small device that connects to your computer via a usb cable, you then insert your memory card into the reader to upload your pictures to your computer,

I personally recommend using a card reader rather than connecting your camera to your pc, it saves wear on your batteries, and usually is faster..

Thanks for that. I was hoping it was a device where it would read the card to store files (hold like 8gb or more) and later I could connect to my pc..........oh well not of much use to me......or maybe so if I invest a little money in one and try it out.

Are you referring to a "Image Storage Devices"? If you are you can read about them at Steve's Digicams,

http://www.steves-digicams.com/digi_accessories.html

scroll down to the Image Storage Devices section.

just buy a few 8 gig memory cards..

Thanks CJSTARR that's what I was thinking a card reader was. I'll look at this.
MICKEY88 I have one 8Gb, 4Gb, 2Gb right now. I may just have to get another one. But I think using the 8Gb and 4Gb will be more than enough for me. I just hope I can be diligent at taking pics. I hate lugging around extra stuff though but will have to deal with it if this is what I plan on doing.
