I swore I had heard something about this before, but I haven't mentioned here because I was sure it couldn't be true. .


. . but I just head on MSNBC that our government knows there are 12 al-Qaida terrorists in our country and that they have been tracking them for months and that they are not sure if they should arrest them!!!!


How dare those dimwits put out this bogus "terror alerts" and scare everyone half to death; harrass American citizens in airports; put our young men and women in the military live's on the line in the name of "national security"; and then know about and sit back and watch anyone who is in our country illegally and not do anything about it. .

Anyone found to be in this country illegally has absolutely no constitutional rights, and they should be arrested and if they are criminals or terrorists tried and put in prison, and if they are just here illegally deported immediately!!!!


If one of these 12 terrorists should happen to slip the authorities and cause harm to one American citizen then whoever's decision it is to let them run loose should be tried for treason.. . .

I am just absolutely stunned at this news. . the government needs to quit writing guides on how many cans of beans and how much duct tape we're supposed to have and go arrest these terrorists NOW. . .

That is just the type of bs that has me so upset about this "terror alert". . . every statement from the govenment concerning this is "we think" "we assume" "we believe" "we anticipate" "it's likely". . . not one damn tangible fact that supports their decision to cause the kind of panic their baseless and useless rhetoric the past few days has caused. .

If they are following these "known terrorists" so close, why don't they know for a fact whether or not they are in communication with leaders overseas??? They should either know every sylable they utter and every time they so much as scratch their nose, or they should arrest them immediately. .

I don't know what all this terror alert and duct tape crap is really about, but I'm convinced it sure isn't what we're being told. .

I swear I think this whole "terror alert" thing is a scam to try and drum up more public support for an invasion of Iraq. . (i.e. the government basically saying "see how awful and scary these terroists are making it for us? That's why we need to go get Saddam. . " Which is more bs because there has been no proven link between bin Laden and Iraq; they are two seperate issues, and there are plety of legitimate reasons to take out Saddam anyway).

I will also bet my last nickle there will be no terrorist attacks within the foreseeable future because all the panic-causing rhetoric is based on nothing but political manipulation of the worst kind. . .

As I have slowly come to the same conclusions you have about this situation Willy, my biggest disappointment is that our government is willing to risk the lives of the military personnel for this war.

I think that Powell is the only reason we have not already gone into Iraq. If it were not for him, we probably wouldn't have even had that UN presentation last week. I have a feeling that he wants to leave this administration, but he feels he is the only voice of any kind of reason up on the Hill.

This is horrifying.

It seems that nothing is not politcally motivated any more. Many people got elected on the Iraq platform and now it's just gone too far.

Now it seems that the government is willing to risk every life by not arresting known al-qaida affiliates. What is wrong with these people???

If something like 9/11 happens again, I hope someone pays for dropping the ball. I pray to God this articles does some good before thousands more loose their lives.

I'm also hoping that this is just another news story gone awry and has been blown way out of proportion.

It seems to be Un-American to oppose this war. The anti-American sentiment around the world is wrong, it's awful and I just wish people would remember what the true good of America is all about. However, I am starting to understand why people who don't know the truths think we are the big bad boogey-men.

I think the reasons the terrorists they are keeping a close eye on are allowed to stay here is the old "keep your enemy close" adage. They can find out more if they are here on our soil.

I'm so on the fence about going to war.

On one hand, I don't want anymore innocent lives to be lost.

On the other hand, bin Laden and Sadam must be stopped.

What do we do, sit idly by while they build up more weapons to use against us or other countries? Do we allow them to do as they wish, and hope it doesn't bite us in the *** later?

I can give you my opinion on that, Blondie.

I think that fighting terrorism with war is the worst possible move the United States could make. I not only predict that it will cause undue strife on this country, and possibly (probably, according to our esteemed government) more attacks on our own soil, but it will further add to the suspicions of Muslims that this whole war is about control of oil, further inflaming the anti-American passions of the Middle East. Not to mention the fact that we have very few allies, the whole world is against this war, it seems, except for those running this country.

I don't know what we should do about Saddam, perhaps progressively isolate him over a period of time, but to me, this all seems like pouring gasoline on a roaring blaze........

i didn't read the article, but what blondie is aying is true. why arrest people as soon as they knew about them if they could get some intel about what was being planned. if they arrest the people without finding anything out, another cell or part of that cell will just take over and go forward with the original plan.

This is merely another ploy to make sure we know that there is really a problem. The nation is not informed of details... something like this being allowed to slip through was highly intentional.

I doubt if they're sitting idly by. These people KNOW our intentions. If I were a big bad guy with a big bad gun and someone was constantly telling me to put away my big bad gun and if I didn't there would be heck to pay, I hit them before they hit me. Too bad so many will die who NEVER uttered those threats.

Guys....I really don't think anyone wants to get into this, especially when this is hitting so very close to home for everyone...but some people are not seeing this rationally.

First off the news media is a business. They report things in order to get higher ratings, because higher ratings lead to better commercial slots, which lead to more money! If you really just sat down and thought about this...what are the chances that our newspapers were really printing classified info? They aren't! This info isn't as "real" as they are portraying it. First off the government wouldn't leak things this important, and if for some reason it was leaked, the government would exercise a gag order in the name of national security. Because you can bet whatever you read in the newspaper or see on the TV, that all the terrorists have the same ability to read/see it.

Second, as a few others have said, what good would arresting these people right now do? More people would step up to their place. I certainly know that if I was heading up this situation, I woud be doing everything possible to gather intel. That is the way to the heart of this. Deportation, or incarceration will do no good. These people do not have a fear of death. That can be seen by the suicide bombings. They are on a one track mind. So no amount of coercion on our parts will get them to talk. The best we can hope is to allow them to stay in their element, so that we can gather further intel from them. Don't fool yourself into thinking that arresting 12 people will make this "problem" go away. For every one person we know of, there are possibly hundreds more.

Third, to the people who think everyone who is here on Visas from Arab countries should be deported. Well that is just so sad that you feel that way. But I know it is your emotions in this situation talking and not your head. If we totally discriminate against everyone with a dark tan and dark features, how are we any better than those who discriminate against Americans. Sure we aren't bombing them or setting up plans to kill others, but there are fanatics everywhere. Do you remember after 9-11, so many poor guests in our country who were attacked by so called "patriots." I had a world religions class with a young man from Egypt. He had come to America for a better education. After the bombings he was forced to return home because it was no longer safe for him in "our" country. He was being harassed and threatened. Don't for one second assume that all Americans are good, and all Arabs are bad. There are fanatics everywhere. Fortunately they make up a small percentage of the whole.

Do people really think that observing them and watching what they do is going to stop anything? It's just using up the resources we need to go out and find more like them. I just saw this on ABC news. .

Feb. 13 — A key piece of the information leading to recent terror alerts was fabricated, according to two senior law enforcement officials in Washington and New York.

The officials said that a claim made by a captured al Qaeda member that Washington, New York or Florida would be hit by a "dirty bomb" sometime this week had proven to be a product of his imagination. . .



As I've said since this started, this "terror alert" is baseless and irresponsible. . .

Bush whom not long after 9/11 said that if anyone even so much as jokes around about this stuff will be dealt with? Well, what did those 2 get? Nothing! The only sensible thing done was that the hospital in FL kicked them out of the medical program. Good for them!

Thanks for keeping us updated, Willy! I have a hard time trusting the media, but that doesn't stop me from keeping a constant 'news' vigil. It is frustrating and scary to listen to the reports, and then to have them come out and contradict themselves.

WillyJ, thanks for the update. Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel don't have BREAKING NEWS banners with more terror alert story updates. No wonder I've been watching these shows with my DD more, it's too painful and frustrating to watch the news!
