What I'm Focussed On - Scavenger Hunt 2015

There was a really bad storm that went through my area yesterday and I happened to be out at a ball game for my grandson. This means I had my camera with me. The following pics are the beginning of the storm, height of the storm and the calm after it was over. Categories covered are Clouds, Lightning and Stormy. I have to say it was one of the scariest things I have ever driven through but it didn't stop me from getting a few pictures while stopped in traffic.

This is the storm heading our way

We were stuck in traffic here for at least 5 lights. An electric pole had been knocked over on the other side of the intersection and it amazed me that people were driving over the downed power lines

We just returned from a trip to Europe so I have some photos to post. I was working from memory as to what was on the list, but I had a lot of fun just photographing the things I was interested in. I have not edited any of these photos so here goes:

Harbor

Live Entertainment - in a canal in Amsterdam

Icon - in a church in Amsterdam

Old things in an attic - this was a Catholic Church in the attic of a home in Amsterdam that was done in the 1600's when Catholics were no longer allowed to practice their faith.

Barber Pole

Historical Ingenuity- This was a washing machine for linens used by nuns in the 1700's powered by a windmill

Museum - in Deventer, Netherlands showing early life

Costumed Interpreter

Street Performer

Fruit - cherries growing on a tree in the Black Forest in Germany

Desert - the best Black Forest Cake we have ever eaten

Monastery - in the Black Forest

Historical - Heidelberg Castle - It was raining so a little foggy

Friends and myself - what better way to travel than with friends? I am on the left

Monument - on the Rhine River for those that lost their lives under Kaiser Wilhelm in 1871.

View from a Mountain - view of the Rhine River- also a rainy day with fog

Antique - street organ that still works

@nordkin Thank you for posting pictures of your amazing travels. It brought a smile to my face this morning. And how nice to 'meet' you. Thanks for sharing!

Kitten

This is my newest furbaby, Mezzo. She joined the household in early December 2014 when she was 3 months old. This picture was taken on the first day we got her! She's a Bengal cat.

She found the Christmas Tree about 2 weeks later.

My Hobby

One of the things I like to do is knit. I ended up knitting and making that soft toy mouse for her.

She did like playing with it.

Clearly, I have a bunch of pictures of her. She's about 6 - 9 months old in these picture.

She jumps high now!

I'd like to call this Katydid, even if it is a grasshopper she's eating!

Is this close enough for Iris?

Friends. Hard to believe that she's only been in our lives for about 6 months or so. The whole family absolutely adores her!

Constellation

Venus and Mercury have been moving towards a conjunction over the last month. This was taken on the 20th June when the Moon, Venus and Mercury formed a triangle.

ISO 3200, f/4, 1/10 sec (hand held)

One day later....on the 21st June

ISO 800, f/8, 1.3 sec

Sadly for me, it was completely cloudy and overcast here on both the 30th June and 1 July. I missed Venus and Mercury at their closest point. Nevertheless, this was the planets on the 2 July.

ISO 3200, f/4, 1/30 sec

And for those thinking that we should have stars instead of planets for Constellation......

ISO 1250, f/4, 4 secs

Can you make out the constellations? I've circled them....the Pointers at the bottom left, pointing to the Southern Cross.

I will be posting pics later this week. I have been preoccupied with my dad. He underwent surgery today for cancer and that was all I have been able to think of lately. A funny story though, as I sat in the waiting area with my family and trying not to worry I looked up and the first thing I said was "I need my camera. I need a picture of a clown." There were 2 volunteers dressed as clowns walking down the hallway and I thought of the Scavenger Hunt. It did break up some of the tension of the day. I didn't get the pictures though. :(

Hope your dad has a quick recovery!

Thanks Princess. It is expected to be about 3 months recovery time but he will get through it just in time to be Santa Claus again. This is one of the reasons I have been absent from the boards, he was diagnosed almost a year ago and the ups and downs of his illness were very difficult to deal with. Now there is light at the end of a long tunnel.

Insects (on flower or feeding*)
These pictures were taken at Heifer Ranch (part of Heifer International) in Perryville, AR.

Can spot the bumblebee? It technically just finished feeding, but I thought this picture was more interesting than the ones with it on the flower.

In this picture, the ant is difficult to see unless you zoom in.
