First Disney cruise is in 5 days! I have heard a lot about the sail away party, mostly from this board. My question is do they still have a sail away party if it's raining? Where do they have it - outside or inside? Thanks!

It rained when we were in Saint Thomas last year, didn't phase anyone. As long as it is not a cold rain I wouldn't think it would make a difference (and since it is snowing here anything would be warmer) Also once the ship sets sail I think they can avoid bad weather to some extent. hope this helps.

One of our sail away parties was in the rain. As we actually sailed away we were outside. However, almost as soon as we pulled away they moved the party into Studio Sea. I'm not sure how many joined them as we decided to just dry off and get ready for dinner.

We sailed on the July 4th Wonder cruise. At the lifeboat drill it was spritzing a bit, but also lightning. Because of the lightning they then announce that the sail away party would be held in the atrium. At first I was bummed, but it turned out really nice, although a little packed. For the holiday they had a huge red, white and blue ballon drop, with some prizes inside the ballons. As soon as we finished the countdown and "Celebration" started playing, the balloons all fell and kids were frantically popping them(sounded like fireworks). It was very cool, and I was glad it turned out that way.

We have had two sailaway parties indoors...both times in Rockin Bar D due to inclemnet weather. Once in Feb and once in August.

I prefer the outdoor sailaway parties....much more fun and more room to dance/enjoy!!!

we were also on the 4th of july cruise (the same one CamColt was on....and by the way, she's really really really nice)...
as she mentioned, because of the lightening, the sailaway party in port canaveral had to be held indoors....
unlike CamColt we did NOT enjoy it at all....
there was only room in the lobby and the balconies for maybe a twentieth of the passengers on board (there were 2,700 passengers....no where near that many can fit in the lobby).....
we stayed maybe 2 seconds.....realized we could see absolutely nothing at all and left...
however, perhaps to make up for the sorry sailaway party in port canaveral they had a spectacular sailaway party in nassau....great music....great dancing...the other ships were watching us longingly....
now that party was great....and with lots and lots of room for everyone who wanted to participate......my daughter and i danced on deck for almost an hour.....we only left to head off for dueling pianos (my daughter went to every single one of their shows during the cruise.....a groupie i suppose)...

LOL! Disneyholic & her family are very very nice too! ;)
Hi guys!

hi back atcha....i love that waving smilie guy....

i was wondering when i posted my earlier response, whether they always have a big sailaway party in nassau or whether it was because of not having had one in port canaveral....

i also didn't mention that the characters performed in the middle of the nassau sailaway party.....it was really cute...

oh...and the best part of the sailaway party is the actual sailing away....i just loved waving at the other ships as we moved out of the port in nassau.....i suppose it's provincial of me or something, but i really enjoyed that...

There is usually a deck party on the Nassau night. On our first Disney cruise, we didnt sail out of Nassau until 2:00am so it really wasnt a sail away party since it was over by then. In fact on our July cruise we thought we were leaving Nassau at 2:00 am again, however a couple of girls at the pool asked us what time we thought and they pointed out that it was earlier. They had thought the same thing as us and had planned to spend the night partying in Nassau(lucky they found out the real time). I dont know when the Wonder changed to the earlier time, but now it is nice that it coincides with the deck party. We were inside at one of the clubs when we sailed so we missed that one. :(

i was also surprised by the early sailing out of nassau since everything i'd read before the cruise had said 2 am....
but it was fine with me....we got back on the ship at 2:30 in the afternoon anyway...the kids wanted to get back for the special screening of lilo & stitch on the big screen...

since my daughter dragged me everywhere with her, there was no way i would have missed the deck party.....thanks to her, i missed very little of that sort of thing on the ship......and we did a lot of dancing together....
by the way, the band at that deck party in nassau was great.....it was the band that plays at pleasure island a lot....at the outdoor stage...
