What "Hidden" treasure's are at The Contemporary????

Hi!

I have some good friends that have decided to stay at The Contemporary in July. What are some of the "Hidden" , "Forgotten" or "Overlooked" must see or do's at the Contemporary. I personally have never stayed there so I don't know the different things to know about the Contemporary.

I have stayed at the CR several times. I'm not sure if the following are "hidden" treasures but they are treasures to me: California Grill, the rooftop walk and watching MK fireworks, seeing the EWP from the beach area, the walkway to MK, Concourse Steakhouse, the Outer Rim lounge.

We loved the shops at the Contemporary- there is even a candy counter in Bay View Gifts- in case you forgot to get some yummy fudge in the parks. If you get the refillable mug, you can get Icee as a refill- cherry or coke flavored (a BIG hit with my 5 year old).

I've stayed at the Contemporary a fair number of times too. Some of the things I love are the Mickey Mouse ears silhouette in the back. They light it up at night and people often sit inside the ears and have their picture taken. Also, the talking elevators - each elevator has a different Disney character announce your floor. My 7 year old loved hearing that. He also likes looking for the 5 legged goat in the mural on the Grand Canyon Concourse.

We discovered on our last trip that if you're on a balcony with a Magic Kingdom view you can look down to the topiary area between the Convention Center and the valet parking area and see a Mickey Mouse watch they've created out of bushes.

Finally, if you're friends have children, I discovered that the front desk gives out crayons and an activity book. You just have to ask for it.

Send your friends to the end of the peir about 9:50pm one evening...and they'll be sure to get a front row, up close and personal view of the Electric Water Pagent! Which usually runs by the CR at 10:05

Wendi.. these are great "hidden" treasures.........thanks to some knowledgeable Dissers who obviously have lived it first hand at the Contemporary.......hopefully we can get you a few more..

Do they still let you go up on the balcony to see the fireworks? I thought they stopped doing this for some reason....

I was going to post about the mickey ears in the back, near the pool as well. One of the cutest pics from our stay at the CR is of my two boys, one in each "ear" and my daughter in the stroller between them

my kids enjoy the pool area--it isn't as fancy as some, but the shooting fountain in the center, the slide, and the "squirting sidewalk" (as my 7 year old calls it, LOL) are a lot of fun on a hot afternoon....

We like riding the monorail, just for fun...we love taking the boat to ft. wilderness and explore over there. water mouse boats are fun....being able to hear the MK from the property....
