What have you seen on the EA? (running thread)

On the A side this past Sat morning(745AM),the luxury area had numerous Cadillacs and Park Avenues. The Emerald aisles was loaded with cars. It was the most I have seen in the last few months. Did not notice any SUVs. It appeared that Dodge Intrepids dominated the Aisles this time around.

Intermediate VS Full-Size question

We are renting for only 1 day (from MCO-returning the car to the desk at the Dolphin) and our party consists of : me, Dh, and 7yo DS. We are staying at BCV for 12 days and can't afford to rent a vehicle for the whole trip. In looking at the National site and clickiing on car types it is showing that the Intermediates and Full size cars both hold 5 passengers and 2 suitcases. Since we are EC members we were going to reserve an intermediate and take our chances but wondering if we should reserve a full-size? Then I guess we would be doing Emerald Reserve not EA right?

Just trying to see what the benefit on doing the ressie each way would be. Since it is only a 1 day rental the cost between the 2 car classes is less than $5.

Any guidance in this area?

You would be doing ER rather than EA with a full size rental.
If you think you can fit your family in a Galant or Grand Am, then go for the intermediate, if not, pay the 5.00 more and be assured of a full size car.

Gail-
Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought but can't figure out why some are saying that ER is worse than EA. It is because you might get stuck with an ugly full-size car or something? I figure in my case, it is only for 1 day so I don't really care what we get as long as it gets us and our luggage to the hotel! :)

Thanks again!
Karen

With EA, you are gambling. They could have only intermediates, then you make a good choice with ER. On the other hand, they could have full size, vans, suvs then you might have been better off with EA (only paying for intermediate), but you don't know that ahead of time. Since you are only using it for 1 day, I would go with ER full size for the extra $5.

I'll be there tomorrow afternoon, hopefully they will have a good selection. I booked EA since it's just my mom and I, we can manage with an intermediate. I'm not taking my laptop this time, so I'll post on Monday night!:D

I don't think I have heard anyone say that ER is worse than EA. Maybe they were talking about the change to EA last March.
I use EA cause I like to gamble. :) I have been very lucky so far.
The ER full size aisle was very well stocked earlier this month as was the EA, lots of full size cars and a couple SUV things.

Thanks for the "update"! Hopefully they'll have Cadillacs and not just Park Avenues when we get in. ;) A Deville or Seville would be fine. :teeth:

Picked up our vehicle on the B side at 3:00 pm on Monday, 9-22-03. We had an old ressie that still said Emerald Aisle even thought we rented a full size. The aisle and the full-size had ONLY Buick Centuries. That's all. About 50 of them all around - mostly white and tan. We settled on one, loaded all our stuff and were just ready to take off when we spotted one lonely Dodge Caravan on the aisle. I don't know where it came from because it wasn't there when we walked in. We ran over and snagged it, unloaded and reloaded all our stuff (including the kids!!) and took off happy. Checked out and turned it in with no problems. I paid $154 for 10 days for the van - what a deal!!!!!!

Hi~

Just back from our trip. Got to the EA Monday about 11:30 a.m. Not much of a selection; wound up taking a Camry with 16000 miles. We didn't look at it too closely, but later noticed quite a few scratches in the paint. The car drove beautifully though.

Just got back. We arrived about 3:00pm on Wednesday, Oct 1, B side. The aisle had about 15 or 20 cars. Malibu's, Century's, Outlander, Tracker, Monte Carlo's. All full size or better. The intermediate aisle was pretty full too. I chose a silver Monte Carlo with *8* miles on it! Drove great! Returned it about 1:00pm today (Mon Oct 6), I looked at the aisle on the way out, there were only about 8 cars, Camry, Alero, Malibu, an SUV. No vans either time. The Carlson Travel code worked great, $120.28 incl tax with $15 entertainment coupon.

On the way out today, I noticed they had 3 or 4 Devilles plus Park Avenues.

Arrived at Natl. around 3PM on Saturday, September 26. Lots of car choices in the EA. I have no idea what they were, as we were looking/hoping for a van or SUV. We were surprised by how many choices there were, given the time of day. We took one of those Outlander SUV things...it was fine for the week :) We saw a van as we were leaving, but didn't feel like making the switch, LOL

this was on the A side of the airport.

we arrived on Wed., October 1 around 10:30 pm. Limited selection--a couple of pick-ups, some smaller white cars, a red Impala, and a burgundy Century. The pickings were slimmer when we returned the car--just white sedans. Return was Tues 10/7 around 11 am.

Arrived Wed. night at 6:30 pm on Oct. 8th. Nothing special. A few Pontiac Grand Prix's, impalas, camrys,Galants. We took the grand Prix which my husband loves. It is very fast!! We had a problem checking out because of the contract ID that I used but I was able to work it out by going back around and going to the guy inside next to the Emerald Aisle. Well, gotta get going. We are heading out to the MK.

I'm worried about car selection myself. We're arriving next Saturday around 6:30pm. I wonder if ANYTHING will be available. I guess I'll find out...

P.S. This is my first post on the DIS boards. Whoo-hoo! I love this place for all the planning tips and advice. :)

I would not worry, it is a big travel day for leaving and entering.

There will be at least the class car you rented, which would be an intermediate if you are using the EA. It is always a gamble for something larger.
