I have learned..
That there are many other people like me who enjoy the same Disney stuff, that will listen in times of woe, who will help and offer advice and who will support you when you're feeling upset or scared.

I have learned...
about the up-front monorail trick, about the secrets of staying on-site, how to make every Disney adventure even better than the last and how to get the best out of my stays there.

I have learned...
That you can become 'attached' to people you don't really know, that you can have 'virtual' friendships that really mean something. (Hi, Jen, Sue, Mandy, Natalie, Lizzy, Dan Murphy, Johnny, Ade, Lynninpa and sorry if I forgot anyone - well, you know who you are!)

ooh!, I actually learned how to post a photo ;)

I've learnt that..

...this a community of online people who like each other and who can be friends despite not knowing what the other people look like...

...I'm not the only one who is crazy for Doctor Who, but the only one who is crazy about Pokemon

...that the DIS is far much more than a place to get free stuff for the Virtual Magic Kingdom (which I no longer play on, LOL).

...that I'm not the only one who spends too much time online. :)

Oh crumbs....some of the things that stand out amongst thousands is that I'm not the only disney crazy out there, waking up Tinkerbell, how to play the ADR game, way too much about what every meal will look like before I even order it :teeth: which room I should ask for at every hotel on property, not to worry about getting back to a ride before the fastpass expires, crocs!!,

so much more but mostly that I have found a place where people understand :grouphug:

i too learnt the upfront monorail trick ;) and i learnt how to maximise the free dining plan
and that other pople are even more fanatical about WDW than me :thumbsup2

i also have learnt that the disboards is a great way to meet new people either vitually or in person :) :)

a HUGE thanks to everyone who makes the dis community so fantastic :cheer2:
especially the moderators (and the tag fairy :rotfl2: )

I totally agree Carol, I have learnt so much from these boards and I'm always finding new things out.

It is amazing the amount of people on here that I mention to my family and friends that I really do class as my friends ~ and a lot of them I have never met, and then there are those that I have met and that I do consider to be my good friends.

Don't ya just love the Dis

Mandy :)

I've learned LOADS about Disney - something that's been in our lives probably since we were very small, and that we accepted without knowing how much effort actually goes into making the magic happen - just for each and every one of us.

I've learned that it's not just me who's anal about planning.... :rolleyes1

I've also learned that there is a place online where no-one is threatening or abusive and will point you in the right direction no matter how many times you ask the same questions!!

Cheers you guys!!

Lynn :grouphug:

Can I learn one more thing please...

What is the up-front monorail trick?

I have learnt a great deal from the disboards.

Other people love Disney as much as me.

How to make ADR's

Learnt about DVC, to the fact of buying in.

There are many more things i have learnt.

Ive learnt all of the above!!

One of the best things for me is knowing that if I start a conversation about Disney there won't be the eye rolling and "why don't you go somewhere else" questions that I get from other people!! Its so nice to know that there are other people who care as much as I do about planning and counting down till their holiday!

Plus, there are people who feel like real friends to me on here, I met the lovely Carolfoy and her family last year and Im hoping that I will have the chance to meet a few more Disers this year. :goodvibes

What is the up-front monorail trick?

When you get on the monorail if you ask the guard then you can ride up front with the driver, the views are meant to be great and you get a certificate!! There might already be people riding so you may have to try a few times before you are able to.

Most things to do with Disney that I plan on doing on my holidays next year.
Illumination cruise, celebration cakes and flowers delivered to the hotel. The secrets of making ADR's and lots more besides.

I've also learned like Carol I've got some friends I can sound off too who truly understand when I'm feeling down or at the other end of the scale feeling totally excited when I booked our holiday and watching the countdown disappear (slowly!!!).

Chilly - I believe the upfront monorail trick is to ask when getting on the monorail if you can ride up front with the driver and you get a certificate to say you've done it. I didn't know that before discovering the DIS.

I agree about the virtual friends thing. It always cheers me up coming on the DIS and 'speaking' to people that you feel you know :sunny:

I learnt about the Disney 'secrets' that I printed off for my trip last year and had great fun looking for them. Eg, Tinkerbell's hiding place in the shop in MK, the sounds from the shops on Main Street, and the wedding ring at the Haunted Mansion.

I have learnt about how to make ADRs.

Didn't know about Crocs before reading about them on here, and now own 3 pairs :cloud9:

There are so many more things that I can't think of, but suffice to say, I would be lost without the DIS and everyone here :cloud9:

Oh too much to list. :thumbsup2

My holiday last year was an absolute surprise of new things even though I had been before because of what I have learnt on here, and I know this year will be just as exciting because of more new things learnt.

But not only about Disney, everyday things, television, shopping, and all things discussed in our wonderful community and on more than one occasion a virtual shoulder to lean on in troubled times.

I am still amazed and hounered to say that a lot of my dis friends have become close friends that I have met on several occasions and without these boards that never would have happened. :grouphug:

I love to log on each day and feel as though I am part of a wonderful caring and happy community and long may that reign :thumbsup2

The DIS has been a big part of my life for the past 6 years. On my 40th birthday (in July 2001), I ended up going to a DIS Meet about 10 miles from where I live. It wasn't the way I'd intended to spend my 40th birthday, but my Dad had died the previous September and, as a result, my Mum was in a psychiatric hospital on my birthday. The party I'd planned suddenly seemed inappopriate so, at the last minute, I cancelled it and Matt and I went to the DIS Meet instead.

I was very nervous about the Meet and almost didn't go. That day I met many people who I now consider to be more than just virtual friends. Take a bow Hilary, Tim, Fiona, Steve, Annie, Darryl, Shirley, Naveed, Astrid, Sam, Paul & Shirley, SpottyDog Dave, Val.

Amongst the many others we met that day were Kev, Tam, India and Georgia Stringer. Our friendship has been a slow-burner, but now, without question, they are our best friends. We are about to take our third holiday with them (with a fourth in the planning stages) and we see them a couple of times a month.

I think the internet is fantastic. These days I have no compunction in meeting up with cyber friends and I'd encourage everyone else to do the same. Hello to Kaylee and Alan, Tony and Theresa, Simon and Susan, Joh and Gary, Claire, Vernon, Mich, Karen & Jon, Mandy & Mark, Penny, Katholyn, Kathy, Sean & Alison, Janice. :wave2: Looking forward to meeting Sue and Vicki in October and Jules and Ian at our house later this month!

Love, love, love the DIS! :grouphug:

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone! :goodvibes

We rode up front in 1998 - we didn't ask we were just asked if we wanted to. It was really special, but we didn't get a certificate.

I've learned a lot of things from DIS. . .

. . what hidden Mickeys are
. . how to prebook my seats on Virgin flight
. . that I can make ADRs from home
. . that one night in an Universal Hotel is well worth the money
. . what an Illumination's cruise is
. . that I should have asked for a certificate when I rode up front on monorail!!
. . I could go on and on

basically nearly all the useful info I have comes from here.

I have learnt that this place is totally addictive!

I have also learnt that it is a safe and happy place to chat and make virtual friends, and hopefully some real ones too (I am going to my first Dis meet next month!)

Oh, and of course, I have learnt loads of Disney related things too, but somehow nowadays that is definately secondary to chatting with all you lovely people :grouphug:

Great idea for a thread, Carol.

That everyone is so helpful and loves Disney.

I'd never have known about secrets, annual passports and shareholder info :)

How to book ADRs; how to use travellers cheque card; how to use fastpass; where to go and when to go; EMHs; what to say to the characters; how to amuse my 3 yr old on a 9 hr flight; how I will have to go back again...and again...and again, and finally how there are people out there who are kind, helpful and supportive to others without any thought for personal gain.

Thanks you guys :goodvibes

Sara. :)

I have learnt so much and I am still really new to the boards compared to lots of you ...

I have been able to get an Illuminations Cruise for this year sharing with an American family, have some great tablemates for our cruise, Jane, Sue, Kelly and in particular Linda who I think is going to become a great friend as she seems as barking as I am :rotfl2:

Thanks to lots of your posts in particulars Debs I have learned that there is more to Orlando and Florida than just the "world" and we hope to take advantage of this and explore a bit next year. My husband does not DIS as such he sits and looks over my shoulder while I DIS, he takes a real interest and asks daily if Mandy has put up her tree or if Anna has changed her plans :rotfl2: (sorry Anna, he means it kindly honest) ....

It is a great place where I can come and chat to people who love Disney as much as I do, unlike the "real world" of eye rolling and are you mad comments. It is great to have somewhere to go where I can vent or just share my excitement.

As you have all said I feel that I have made some friends, Deb and Matt (Matt will probably disagree as I am Welsh), Kev and Tam, Tim, Boo, Linda and others who I am sorry if I have forgotten.

I am really looking forward to the meet at Raglan Road and meeting Claire and family, Joh and family etc ....

Deb and Matt have very kindly invited us to their home at the end of the month and we both cant wait to have a tipple with them and the Stringers, this I think is the most amazing thing about the DIS, meeting up with like minded people who I very much hope will become friends ...
