What have you enjoyed (or NOT enjoyed!) at Coral Reef for dinner?

Added another night to our trip so I added Coral Reef for dinner. The menu is small but looks good; what have you enjoyed there or what would you warn someone about?

We had the best desserts at Coral Reef! Chocolate Wave and Chocolate Adrift.

DH absolutely loved the Chocolate Wave. Strangely enough, at this seafood restaurant, we love the filet!

I ate there last week with DD10 and DD9 (who were 9 and 8 at the time...this was their birthday trip). My review won't help most people because I despise all seafood and so do my kids. We ordered all non-seafood items, which are few and far between on the CR menu.

I loved everything we had though!

All three of us ordered the Ceasar Salad with Grilled Chicken as our appetizer. There was no extra charge for the chicken add-on...it was included in the DDP. The shrimp add-on would have been included as well. The salads came out with an entire HUGE chicken breast on top. We were all very impressed.

I ordered the NY Strip steak (only on lunch menu...the dinner menu replaces it with Filet Mignon). I ordered it rare and it came PERFECT...great flavor, no fat, no grizzle. It came with au graten potatoes, fresh asparagus cooked to perfection, and glazed baby carrots (I'm not a huge carrot fan, but I could have eaten these all day).

DS ordered the children's steak (not on the menu, but offered by the server). He ordered it well done and it was perfect. No fat, no grizzle, no waste. His plate also came with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. He said everything was delicious and to my amazement he cleared his plate!

DD ordered the kid's pizza. It looked about as good (or bad) as all individual pizzas look, but she seemed to really enjoy it.

My dessert was the Chocolate Wave. It's a chocolate mousse cake with grand manier filling and chocolate ganesh on top. It was AMAZING and a work of art. It some sort of a chocolate wafery-type cone on top. I'd love to find the recipe for that cone thing, because it was delicious.

The kids ordered the make-your-own sundaes. They got chocolate covered cone cups with vanilla ice cream. On the side were cups with whipped cream/cherry, chocolate syrup, chocolate sprinkles, and flat colored sprinkles shaped like Mickey-Mouse. It also had a large chocolate banner on the side which read, "My Sundae." The chocolate banner was the size of a Hershey bar and would have been an adequate dessert for a kid in and of itself.

The atmosphere was very nice. It was quiet and elegant for the adults, yet entertaining for the kids (because of the tank).

We left CR stuffed to the point of discomfort.

We're going back again during the free dining promotion.



Additional note - if you are reviewing the online menus, they aren't accurate. The beef kabob appetizer is no longer available, nor is the Chocolate Adrift dessert. There may be other changes...these are the two that I noticed just from memory.

glad to hear this review i was alittle worriid about this place becasue the menu did not seem like my kids would eat very picky and not huge fish fans ,but your review sealed the deal. I will eat most things here but the kids wont so salad and steak will dofo them. And cant wait to sit amongst the fishes.

I'm glad your family enjoyed Coral Reef. I too was worried that my kids would be hard pressed to pick something since they don't really care for seafood. I feel much more confident about my ADR's now. Thanks

Does anyone know what time Coral Reef opens for lunch?.. I REALLY want to have lunch there, more so after reading this thread... but we are scheduled for the Sea Aqua tour that starts @ 12:45, which means we have to be at guest relations @ 12:30... Would we have time to eat lunch if we scheduled it @ 11:00?... or should we just get an ADR for after the 2 1/2 hour tour?... How late do they schedule lunch?... We have an ADR for Chef De France @ 8:00 pm currently... and I'm not sure we'd be ready for that dinner if we eat lunch as late as 3:30... I also don't know that DH could live that long between breakfast and lunch!... So I'm really open for suggestions here... I just don't know what would be best...

I too have had reservations about dining at Coral Reef...I'm glad that someone really liked it and i'm more confident about dining there.

One thing about the Dining plan, free or not, it's alot of food. I didnt think it would be before we got there last year, but omg, you are STUFFED to the gills..ROFL (get it?) we were at Mamma's last year and we told the server to just use the credits, and we're just gonna get appetizers and dessert..lol.

I think the first reservations are for 11am. I asked for the first lunch opening when I made my ADR for the free dining and the CSR told me that the best she could do was 11:30am. I obviously had no problem with that time, but it leads me to believe that they must start at 11am.

When I ate at Sci-Fi last week we had an 11:10am ADR, so if all the restaurants work similar hours than it seems like you should be able to get 11am.

One other comment on the portion sizes...

When we return in October for the free dining we'll only be ordering two meals and sharing. Unless CR changes the portion sizes between now and then, we will still leave stuffed!!! (it'll be two adult portions this time since DD is 10 now.)

The lobster chowder was great. I had the steak, which was great, dh had chicken, which he claimed was the best he ever had. The kids had chicken and pizza as well as the make-your own sundae for dessert. I had the buttersotch (or carmel) creme brule and that was AWESOME. We also were "stuffed".

What I didn't care for were the beef kabobs that are the appreziters. But I think I just read they were discontinued. They weren't bad, just EXTREMELY small.

We asked for the latest lunch seating and were told that was 2:50. We had the daily special. It was a huge baked potato with about 6 whole shrimp on top with a very nice sauce. It came with lobster bisque and a cheesecake dessert. Yummy!

We've gone for both lunch and dinner and food wise enjoyed it. However, we found to be rushed at dinner. Our entres came out moments after our appetizers. There wasn't room on the table. Fortunately we had a great waiter who quickly instructed the runners to take the entres back. We got new not reheated entres when we were finished with the appetizers. To avoid this we order appetizers. Once we received them we order the entres.

We enjoyed the filet mignon, tilapia, Choc. Wave, and the discontinued beef skewers.

Didn't enjoy the shrimp cocktail & crab cake.

I really enjoyed the grilled mahi with soy glaze and israeli couscous at Coral Reef.
