My brother swallowed a plastic spoon!!

Three rocks, when he was a toddler. We lived in a city townhouse with a concrete backyard, bordered with gravel and pebbles. He swallowed the first two on a Friday, and the last one the following Tuesday. I called the pediatrician both times. The first time they were very reassuring, told me they would pass, no big deal. The second time the nurse on the phone said, "Mrs. So-and-So, this is his third rock. Really, have you considered planting grass???"

DD now almost 20 swallowed a dime. I found it in her diaper. I was a crazy person after that. Always on the floor looking around.

DD12 shoved hard plastic from packaging up her nose that was an emergency room visit.

Same here - my DD (also almost 20 now) swallowed a dime too, but she was old enough to know better (about 10 or 11 ). No problems though, thank goodness.

My niece shoved a rock up her nose at daycare (she was about 4). They had to take her to the ER to have it removed.

We had a high school student who was chewing on the end of a pen swallow it. We had to call an ambulance.

My neighbor's daughter -2 at the time ate a Slug. She never got sick from it. Her twin brother ate Dog poop off the sidewalk. My DH saw him and didn't say anything. Nice-huh?

My ds swallowed a penny when he was about 18 mos. It got lodged in his throat & he was gasping for breath & choking. I called 911 while my ex-h tried to dislodge it. By the time the paramedics got there he was breathing okay, but they recommended we take him to emergency, just in case. They x-rayed him, and the penny was still stuck in his throat. They got hold of an ENT dr, and he extracted the coin.

My ds-7 at the time, swallowed a quarter- the week we moved into a new home(and new state) Good thing I paid attention to where the hospitals were! The operated on him(laproscopically I guess we had good insurance ) And after an hour the doctor comes out and says "we had a little problem"

The problem was that they couldn't get it out- it had slipped down too far- so we go to watch for it. Delightful. Poor school nurse- she offered to watch for it too! Thankfully he never goes at school. But it eventually passed. And he thought it was cool. Brought in his x-ray for show and tell.

when my DS was about 1, he swallowed a handlebar string from DD's bike. You know the long sparkly ones? He cried when it came out. Actually, it only came halfway out. I had to pull the rest of it. Must've hurt, poor little guy.

OMG! I can't believe some of these stories. My kids have never swallowed anything they weren't supposed to.

My little girl must be a little accident prone... when she was 9 months old she got all snotty and had wheezing, the baby sitter gaver her her allergy medicine. I went to get her and take her to the doctor, she had part of a plant lodged in her throat that was causing her to have an allergic reaction. I stayed home with her the next day and Friday took her back to the babysitters. As we were walking into the babysitters we see the strange looking plant that was in DD's throat. The babysitter just cried and said I tought you would never bring her back for me to watch. Clue number 2... clue 1 was a few weeks earlier when she said Lorlaei is so good, she jus tplays for hours all by herself in the other room... hummmm. Then the following Saturday Loralei just cried and cried and then had a bm diaper, well low and behold there was a chunk of plasic inside the dudy. Need less to say DD did not return to that babysitter and I did not refer her to anyone!
When she was two she swallowed a button when she was 3, didn'tknow about that one until later.
Then last Monday, DD found a broken pencil lead in the floor at school and stuck it in her ear to see it if tickled. Made an appointment for that afternoon to have that removed and on the way she told me she also swallowed a penny that day also. THey removed the lead, and the penny was confirmed on an x-ray, we're not looking for that one. DD wants to give it back to the little boy who gave it to her, I said NO!
Kids- I am through with excitement for a little while! I hope.

My DS4 took a small package of gel packs that come in with sneakers and such (you know the ones that soak up moisture). He knew better and opened it then put some of it in his mouth . I called Poison Control since it does say "harmful if swallowed" (a litter calmer than the incident below). He was fine.

Prior to that, when he was about 2 or 3, he got into one of Daddy's diabetic pills and swallowed it (one fell on the floor that we didn't know about). We were on our way out and DH was beeping the horn b/c we were taking too long. I was hysterical and told him what happened. At which point he came inside while I called Poison Control immediately and gave them the name of the medication he accidently took. I was told there was nothing to worry about and he would be fine.

My cousin was about 2 and he swallowed a LIVE TRANTULA

the Dr said his stomach acid killed the spider instantly

but he is now 30 and that is still a favorite family story

Several years ago we were eating dinner at a restaurant and were nearly done, when out of the blue my 12-13 year old son says very calmly and as though it was part of a normal conversation, "I just swallowed my tooth." It seems one of his 12-year molars was just loose enough that his chewing dislodged it, and it came out just as he was swallowing a bite of food. He never had a chance to cough it up or spit it out. Down the hatch it went with the food. My first reaction was to ask him if it went completely down, and he assured me it had. My second reaction was to say to him, "Well, since you've apparently already had dessert I guess we don't need to order any for you." He wound up with an ice cream sundae.

He informed me a day or two later that it did show up, but at his age I wasn't about to check for any "results".

I can't think of anything my DS ever swallowed, but once he stuffed a piece of styrofoam so far down his ear canal that I had to take him to a pediatric ENT to get it removed--they couldn't get it out at the ER. $$$$ and three minutes later it was out.

My daughter used to go to an ENT specialist who had a wall of fame with all the weird things he had pulled out of kids. It was gross but funny at the same time. He had them all framed with the age of the kid and date the object was removed. Alot of coins, marbles, etc but some other weird things too.

One time my nephew shoved a marble up his nose and told his mom it flew up there. He's 15 now and we still laugh over that one.

my ds6 hasn't swallowed anything he shouldn't (that I know of ) but he did put one of those little plastic eyes you glue on paper...in his EAR!!!: thankfully 3 of us held him down and were able to get it out w/tweezers.

When my DD was about 10 months old, I changed a diaper one day to find it full of neon green plastic BB's from a pellet gun. Apparently there had been some spilled in the garage and she must have eaten them when DH was "watching" her the day before.

My BIL swallowed a nail once. Yes, a metal nail... and a BIG one, like an inch and a half long. He still has the x-ray from that one. Believe it or not, it passed naturally.

My kids haven't swallowed anything but my dd, now 13, did put an M&M up her nose when she was about 2 or 3. It was ALL the way up there.

Yes, I know it was dangerous. I was at work and THANK goodness I wasn't home to know that it had happened until it was taken out with my eyebrow tweezer
