What happens to points if you cancel?

Skimmed the book but can't find what happens to your points if you have to cancel your trip for some reason. Have trip set for October but wonder if we would be better off with new DC package that is out. Don't want to lose the points .

depends

if you borrow those points they must be used by the end of this use year

if you cancel more than 30 days - (and the points are not borrowed) - nothing -

if you cancel at or less than 30 days - then the points go into a holding account that must be used with a 60 day reservation (instead of few months)

if you are using your points for a WDW resort - then they stay at a non- DVC location - you can't have a reservation at the Polynesian and then change it to OKW or VWL - it would have to be another WDW resort (non DVC) or the other places that are offered.

If your answer does not fall in the above -send more details - where you are staying, when you are staying, when you might be cancelling - that type of stuff.

If you cancel before you are within 30 days of your reservation, your points will be returned to your current year account. Borrowed points will not go back to the future year and cannot be banked.

If you cancel within 30 days - your points become "Reserevation Points". You will only be able to use these points on a reservation with less than 60 days notice. You will not be able to bank any of these points regardless of which use year they are from.

If your points were not used for a DVC resort, then that is another question. They can no longer be used for DVC resorts or II exchanges.

Well, the points were borrowed so I don't want to lose them. Is there a way to sell the reservation or trade it?

You can try renting it on the rent/trade board.

in this situation - do you have any of this year point in the reservation that you can cancel - if so - you can bank these to next year.

or can you trade next year point (that you make this year reservation) for another reservation using points from this year???

if you can't do the above then yes I would try to rent your reservation.
