What happens in a hurricane?

Directly from The Weather Channel site: "Tropical Storm or Hurricane Ingrid hasn't formed yet "

Phase 5
(Monitoring Storm Possible)
Review current plan, checklists and business recovery plans. Review personnel and resource availability for the ride-out crew. Verify contact numbers and emergency data. Prepare WDW Emergency Operations Center for activation.

Phase 4
(Storm likely within 24–36 hrs)
General readiness imposed. Brief personnel. Review checklists. Consider possible shut down of long lead operations and not starting extended operations. Limited activation and staffing of WDW Emergency Operations Center.

Phase 3
(Storm probable within 12–24 hrs)
Intensify clean up and tie down. Prepare for phase 2 activity. Selected ride-out crew personnel given the opportunity to secure their personal property. Turn in excess radios and vehicles. WDW Emergency Operations Center opens and is fully staffed. Note: Generally this is when the WDW Emergency Operations Center, command centers, and command posts will be fully activated. However, this is an Executive Policy Team decision.

Phase 2
(Storm impending)
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney close. Guest campground trailers removed and secured by the guests. Scheduled hotel and campground guests notified of conditions. Complete all clean up and tie down short of shutdown. Authorized ride-out families move to pre-designated shelters. Ride-out crew fully staffed at start of phase 1 or as directed by the WDW Emergency Operations Center. Personnel not in ride-out crew released as soon as possible.

Phase 1
(Storm imminent, take shelter)
Shutdown all activities and immediately take shelter. Fulfill ride-out requirement plans.

Post Storm Phase
Command Centers submit situation reports to WDW Emergency Operations Center. Establish business resumption / recovery schedule. Notify employees through media and cast Member emergency lines of call back as directed by WDW Emergency Operations Center.

NOTE: There are CM's who volunteer to be part of the Ride-Out crew. They literally stay and "ride out" the storm. They are paid for their time. Most Ride-Out CM's are kids, or adults without kids at home. However, there are a few that have families that stay during the storm - it is good money, since it is double-time overtime.

But that year that so many hit us we actually had reservation for the time that Ivan hit and I told my DH I was going regardless. He wanted to stay home in case anything happened to the house so my DD and I went. (or was it Jeanne?) hit as its my DD"s birthday.

I think I remember you :yay: ... not that I actually met you... but I was getting married the same time you were going and I think I remember seeing a post from you about this.... I was getting nervous and was living on the boards all while thinking the wedding wasn't going to happen :scared1: ... but I am happy to report it went off without a hitch  .....

PS... at that time I was a lurker on the boards... read a lot but didn't post much... I have finally go up the courage to start posting :rotfl: !!!!!

We're keeping an eye on it as we are arriving at the Polynesian on Sept 22nd for 8 days.

We rode out Hurricane Frances in the Beach Club. We got cabin fever big time, since the parks closed for 2 days, but it was extremely safe and comfortable. Since the parks closed, many of the characters came to the lobbies of the resorts to entertain stranded guests. Not a bad way to wait out a storm, I have to say.

Not yet a hurricane or tropical storm - but According to the National Hurricane Center there is a tropical depression in the Atlantic, southeast of Puerto Rico:

don't worry about unnamed storms.

of the named storms very, very few make it to hurricanes.

(what is it less than 10%????)

if you are worried about just a tropical storm - you will not be able to enjoy your vacation.

I am glad I am not the only one quite concerned about the possible Ingrid situation :scared1: !!!!! It has been quiet in the tropics all season but of course because it is getting close for my vacation it kicks in....

The reason I say this is..... Back in 1999 DH and I stayed at POR in September as well... We got there and Hurricane Floyd was due to hit a couple days later.... They closed all the parks early and had already made announcements that the parks would be closed the next day. The hotels filled up quick!!!! I ended up with a cold on that trip so DH, being the good husband that he is , trekked to the Food court to get Pizza for him and Soup for me for dinner. He waited in line for 2 HRS  JUST TO ORDER (no exageration)... He had to go back 45 minutes later to pick up the Pizza... Well Floyd ended up not coming ashore as it took a turn up the eastern coast... The next day Disney was trying to call staff in so they could open a few parks.... Disney was great, every time we turned around they were slipping notices under our door about what to do (I saved all those notices)...

Now that brush with hurricane Floyd wasn't enough for us....... NOooooo, we had to book our wedding for the Hurricane season from H E Double toothpicks :headache: ... In 2004 we had booked our wedding for Sept. 17th.... This is the year that Florida was hit with 4 hurricanes. Hurricane Ivan was threatening the Florida coast so we ended up having to leave 3 days early for Disney (not that I minded the extra time in Disney :woohoo: ) because we were afraid that if we didn't we wouldn't be able to fly in or if we were able to, the City Hall might be closed and we wouldn't be able to get our Marriage license. Luckily the hurricane didn't go over central Florida... then just as we were getting ready to leave... Hurricane Jeanne was sitting off the coast getting ready to hit. We left and Jeanne hit 2 days later!!!!

I don't seem to have the best luck with Disney and Hurricanes!!!!!

We were at Poly during Hurricane Floyd. We have all our notices as well. They actually had us change rooms. We were on the first floor and they moved us to a different building and put us up on the second floor just incase flooding would have occured.
