What happens if you have to cancel your trip? Do you lose $750 in airfare?

I don't know how you feel about this, it being a vacation, but if you could get some of her work that would be done in school those days and maybe get some of it done on the airplane, maybe they would be a little bit more apt to giving those days. My sister did that with her kindergartener and everything was fine. It also kept him a bit busy on the plane.

Thanks to all of you for your support and encouraging words!!! I do appreciate them and I do believe the trip is still on :thumbsup2 I managed to get my 6 yr old DD her endocrinologist appt. a few days before school begins because of a cancellation they had come up, so at least I know she won't be missing a day for that consult.....now just keeping our fingers crossed that her urology consult and her endocrinology consult in the next 2 weeks are good ones and hopefully we have nothing to worry about..... (HOPING... HOPING... HOPING!!!!)

Thank you everyone!!!! :grouphug:

We've taken our kids out of elementary school a few times (never more than 4 days at a time). DS is now entering 8th grade and playing sports, so probably won't be able to do this anymore.

We've always had very supportive teachers, they gave us work to do while on vacation. We had the kids do it in the car on the way to the airport, on the plane etc....It never really disrupted the vacation, but it kept them on track.

DD when she was in 1st grade, the teacher gave here some construction paper stapled together and told her she had to write a daily journal. She's now going into 6th grade. We were going through her bin of school stuff the other day and found it....It was so cute, she said she actually remembers writing every night at the hotel.

Go.... enjoy, work with the teacher.

Kidmom, I am wishing you and your family a wonderful time at the World!!

I graduated high school in the early 60's. From the day I entered into public school they have been tying money to attendance.

They sort of have to, otherwise public schools would inflate their numbers with fake students and demand more funding. But this does suggest another reason to avoid public schools and use private schools or home schools instead.

This isn't the place for that debate. There are plenty of reasons parents choose to send their kids to private school or to home school. Having flexibility with vacations shouldn't be high on the list, though. :confused3

We will likely be taking our girls out of school in May 2008 to go to Disney because our younger daughter is autistic. She has enough challenges without going when the crowds and heat are oppressive. I sincerely doubt our school will give us grief when we explain our reasoning, but if they do we will accept the consequences. Best of luck to you!!!
