We have ressies for this Nov 11-18 at BCV and BWV. Neither are our home resort. Our use year is June. Most of the points used are from the June 2005 use year and some were borrowed from the 2006 use year. If we were to cancel, what happens to the points? Do they go into a holding account? I'm not sure about what happens because I never thought I would ever think of cancelling a trip to WDW!!!

My family and I were in a really bad car accident a week ago and we are unsure if we still want to go on our trip for a number of reasons. Here's a link to my thread from the CB about our accident:

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cancel before 30 days out and they go back into your current use year. Borrowed points become current points. You'll have to use them before the use year is up. You can't bank those points. If you haven't passed your banking deadline, you could bank the other current year points.

You have until October 11 to cancel without penalty. After that date, the points will go into the Holding Account and must be used before the end of the year.

As noted, the borrowed points will remain in the 05 Use Year and cannot be banked, but the other 2005 points could be banked for use between June 1, 2006 and May 31, 2007.

Sorry to hear of your accident. Hopefully, you'll be able to still use the reservation yourself, but if not, you might offer it on the Rent/Trade Board if you won't otherwise be able to use those points. You have about 3 weeks to make your decision about what to do.

I hope all goes well and you'll be able to use those reservations!

Having read thru your report on that accident, it strikes me as you are going to need that vacation. I would recommend going if at all possible as it could be a much needed stress reducer or fun thing to help everyone forget it.

In the case that you do need to cancel, the borrowed points would need to be used prior to June 2006, while you are still in your 100% banking period for the June 2005 points. But perhaps MS could give you the one-time double-secret exception and move those borrowed points back to June 2006. But remember, you would need to cancel prior to 30 days out from your travel dates; otherwise, the points end up in the dreaded "holding account" and would need to be used up subject to those restrictions.

Good luck with the recovery and the vacation plans. :goodvibes I hope your DD recovers her nerve and becomes the happy girl you have always known.

So sorry that you have to deal with all these headaches especially when you haven't fully recovered yet from the accident.

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon physically and mentally. Glad you all are getting some help.

So, so glad that your whole family got through the accident alive without really serious injuries. After reading about the accident, it was a miracle.

Right now I really want to go on our trip in Nov. We all really need it. However there really is no way I can do the drive. DH says he can, because his fear of flying is much greater than his fear of the car! I just can't put myself through it, I know I will be on edge the whole time and be miserable. I am going to look into flying with the kids and DH can drive down. Hey, at least I won't have to worry about our luggage! DH can take all our stuff down for us!!

You should definitely go. But I understand about concerns over how to actually get there and back.

If I were you, while flying would be much more comfortable for me and the kids, I would be constantly worrying and stressing about DH making that long drive all by himself.

Maybe you could look into the Autotrain as a family. It would cut down on the drive and therefore more relaxing for you all.

If you don't need your car at all, someone else mentioned taking the train. Just take it all the way down and get car service to pick you up and drop you off at the train station.

If those options make your trip too expensive and you wind up stressing over finances especially with the added associated costs of the accident, I might look towards renting out that reservation and scheduling a later trip.

I would also take into account DD feelings about the upcoming trip. If she starts stressing about the trip, unless I could come up with an option (like the train) that would make her comfortable, I might seriously cancel the trip, rent out the reservation, use some of the proceeds to plan a short getaway closer to home and save WDW for later on when everyone is up to it.

If you can figure out a stressless way to get your family there and back, I can't think of a better place tahn WDW to recover and get refreshed and get away from the problems facing us at home.

Good luck with everything. Just want to let you know again how glad I am that everyone in your family was able to walk away from that accident.

As for the flying option, I plugged your dates in and got non-stop fares in the $200 range from JFK and EWR. If DH wants to drive it, with the rest of you flying (and taking DME), it could be a good solution. I expect you all need the trip pretty badly at this point. It's a pity DH won't fly. Perhaps while you are waiting to replace the now totalled car, you could send him down in something really fuel-efficient (and recent studies show that these are now just as safe as the big honking SUVs out there - plus they roll over less).

Good luck with everything!

I saw your initial post about the accident just after you posted it and was just grief stricken. That could happen to anyone and there is definitely someone looking over you and your family. It will most likely take a long time to recover from this emotionally. I think if you cancel before the 30 day point, you can just reschedule for later in the use year, or, you may want to try and rent out the reservation, This is a popular time for DVC'ers and this could be an option.

God Bless you and your family.
