I have always wondered what would happen if the underpass between Bay Lake and Seven Seas was damaged or just failed and the water started leaking heavily? That would take some Disney Magic to repair! I've heard it has been hit by an oversized truck at least once.

So long as the water can be pumped out faster than it pours in, the underpass can continue to be used.

Except if there is damage or an earthquake or a sinkhole so severe as to cause a major flood, the major concern of keeping it pumped out and open is falling pieces of concrete.

Yes it would take tons of pixie dust to repair.

As far as I know, any hits by oversized trucks to date have resulted in unmeasurable damage to the underpass structure. Either supersized construction methods back ca. 1970 when it was built, and/or magic from the Disney fairies looking after it, has kept the underpass sturdy and standing.

There exist construction techniques that could yield a second underpass next to this one in the event of failure. Such techniques have been used for such tunnels as the Lincoln Tunnel going under the Hudson from New Jersey to Manhattan.

I maybe wrong on this, I read it a long time ago. There is a design feature that would let steel panels (dams) be placed at each end of the water bridge to permit the water bridge to be pumped out and repaired.

The water bridge gets hit by construction cranes and the like fairly frequently (like a couple of times per year.) When that happens, the roadway is usually closed for an hour or 2 while the bridge damage is inspected.

While it's closed, traffic is diverted around the back of the MK, past Poly & GF.

Fortunately, the only Guest traffic impacted is to the CR. The rest is mostly cm's and, of course, buses to the MK. For the buses, it adds about 10-15 minutes to the trip to the MK, so not such a big deal.
