What happens if I cancel

I have a DVC reservation starting 11-26-05 and may have to cancel. What happens to my points and what option would I have if I need to cancel. Thanks as always to all the wise people here.

Since you are less than 30 days from arrival, the points will be returned to your account, but they will be in "holding" status. That means that you may only make a reservation that uses those points 60 days or less from arrival. Availability is often limited at the 60 day mark, so you may have some trouble making a reservation using those points.

Holding account points may not be banked - they expire at the end of your use year.

You can still use those points to make a non_DVC reservation as long as you don't violate the 60 day rule. That sayd you may not call during the last 60 days of your use year to make a non-DVC reservation for that same time period.

Don't wait too long to cancel if you think you may need to do so. If you cancel too late, you lose the points entirely. Sorry I can't remember if that deadline is 24 hours prior to arrival or some other timeframe. I'm sure someone else will post the correct info on that very soon.

Would a non DVC reservation be at a WDW other than DVC or by using II for a reservation.

The points will be considered used on the day of arrival- as long as cancel by the day before they will go into the Holding Account.

Holding Account points may be used for all of the usual options - but reservations may only be made 60 days ahead. Once within 60 days of the end of your Use Year, the non-DVC options (Disney Collection, Concierge Collection, Adventure Collection) may not be reserved- but DVC resorts and World Passport would still be available.

You could also try to rent the reservation on the Rent/Trade Board.

Rooms are hard to come by for that busy weekend, so you may have some success renting the night to someone who needs it.
