We've never made time to attend the weekly member update, but we're going for two weeks in August so I thought we might make time to go. What is it, exactly? Is it worth attending? Does anyone know when they hold it nowadays?

It's basically a sales pitch for adding on, but it also is a place to have questions answered.

I agree. Most timeshares I go to have a sales pitch as well as a meeting aimed at actual members. All the Marriott's I've gone to have an ownership workshop aimed at Marriott owners in general including reservations and exchanging, at HH, usually with an II rep speaking. It's usually run by the sales staph. Then they have a meeting aimed just at owners at that resort where they talk about nuts and bolts like maint schedules, unit assignments, pool closures and the like. It's usually run by the GM plus at least one other management type and a secretary for recording. I find them quite useful.

I was at one in June, and if I remember correctly, it's on Wednesdays at 4pm at SSR. They've moved the location from the cinema building to the Performing Arts Hall, and I went just to see the new location, as I had never been in the Performing Arts Hall before. (quite nice).
They mostly discussed any new perks, all of the 50th Anniversary things, new attractions, the new DL in Hong Kong, etc. And they had a few door prizes.

When I went in June, the guide was funny and I enjoyed listening to him. He had everyone say where they were from and the person behind me was actually from about 30 minutes from my home town. ALso had people write down favorite memories. If your name got pulled for the door prizes (about 4 of them) they would read your memory before they read your name. I found it interesting, but then I am sick like that. :rolleyes1

We went to one at BWV a few years ago because of the free pastries and coffee!!

We went to one the last week of June. We enjoyed it. The performance hall is very nice and much better than being on folding chairs like in the Boardwalk Community hall where we had last gone to a meeting.

The meeting is about 45 minutes long and is a nice mix of seeing what is new both in DVC but also in WDW.

They had the manager of the spa at Saratoga speak about DVC specials and one person won a spa t-shirt.

They had the head of Member Services speak as well about best times to get hold of them etc.

As NJOYURLIFE said we had a great leader of our meeting as well (I think we were the week after you). We filled out cards with our names, address and favorite memories. They put them in a large box and pull them for prizes. Mine was picked and I won a DVC golf umbrella.

All in all it was a very nice way to meet our neighbors. We had the added bonus of meeting up with two other couples that are going on the DVC Member Cruise with us.

I am the only Grump, I guess. I liked the old meetings at OKW. The Community Hall gave them a relaxed feeling, as did the coffee and pastries. I went to one at SSR and somehow the venue was just not as conducive to people chatting. I have not really learned anything important at these meetings. Guess that the time on spend on DIS usually gives me all the info I need. I won't be spending precious WDW time at any Member Updates unless something changes in the format.

I want to go in August, but I would have to drag my kids there. Do people bring kids? My kids are 9, 6, and 2.
